Delhi University Records Highest Single-Day Attendance in Winter Semester Exams
New Delhi: The University of Delhi recorded its highest single-day attendance during the ongoing winter semester examinations on Wednesday, with a total of 2,28,781 students appearing across morning and afternoon sessions.
According to an official status report released by the university’s examination branch, the exams were conducted under the National Education Policy (NEP) framework and the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS), making it one of the largest examination exercises undertaken by the university in a single day.
The examination schedule was largely focused on undergraduate programmes, with 904 different question papers administered across multiple examination centres, reflecting the scale and complexity of the process.
A substantial portion of the candidates came from the School of Open Learning (SOL). SOL students accounted for 65,413 undergraduate appearances and 2,002 postgraduate appearances, significantly contributing to the overall turnout.
Undergraduate Examinations Form Majority
Regular undergraduate students constituted the largest segment, with 1,61,366 candidates appearing for their exams. University officials confirmed that no regular postgraduate examinations were scheduled on the day.
When combined, regular and SOL undergraduate candidates formed the overwhelming majority of examinees, clearly establishing undergraduate programmes as the central focus of the winter examination cycle. Nearly 30 percent of the total turnout comprised SOL students, highlighting the growing participation of distance education learners.
Morning Session Witnesses Higher Attendance
Attendance data showed a clear preference for the morning slot. The 9.30 am session recorded 1,52,476 students, more than double the 76,305 candidates who appeared in the 2.30 pm afternoon session.
During the morning session, 795 papers were conducted. These included 775 papers for regular and Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board undergraduate courses, along with 20 undergraduate papers for SOL students.
The afternoon session comprised 109 papers, all at the undergraduate level.
Minor Logistical Challenges, Exams Conducted Smoothly
The university had earlier indicated that around 800 papers were scheduled for the morning session. However, due to logistical challenges, a small number of papers could not be dispatched and were not conducted at certain centres.
Despite these issues, officials stated that examinations across centres proceeded smoothly.
A session-wise breakdown showed that the morning session included 1,08,122 regular undergraduate students, 43,467 SOL undergraduate students, and 887 SOL postgraduate students. The afternoon session saw 53,244 regular undergraduate students, 21,946 SOL undergraduate students, and 1,115 SOL postgraduate students.
