New Delhi. : Delhi University has once again revised its fee structure, approving a second increase of over 17 per cent within six months, intensifying student and faculty concerns over the rising cost of higher education. The revised fees will come into effect from the 2026–27 academic session.
With the latest revision, the university’s share of student fees has increased from ₹3,500 in July 2025 to ₹4,100, exceeding the institution’s stated norm of limiting annual fee hikes to around 10 per cent.
Revised Fee Structure (2026–27)
As per the updated structure circulated among colleges on January 2, students will now pay:
- ₹1,750 towards the University Development Fund (UDF)
- ₹1,750 for University Facilities and Services
- ₹300 for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) Assistance Fund
- ₹300 for the University Student Welfare Fund
Second Major Hike in Six Months
This is not the first increase in recent times. In July 2025, Delhi University raised its contribution to ₹3,500. At that point:
- UDF was increased from ₹1,200 (2024) to ₹1,500 (2025) — a 25% jump
- Facilities and services fee rose from ₹1,250 to ₹1,500
- EWS Welfare Fund increased from ₹200 to ₹250
Steep Rise Since 2022
Fee data over the last four academic years shows a sharp and consistent upward trend:
- UDF: ₹900 (2022) → ₹1,750 (2026)
- Facilities & Services: ₹500 (2022) → ₹1,750 (2026)
- EWS Welfare Fund: ₹100 (2022) → ₹300 (2026)
With all major fee components witnessing sustained annual hikes since 2022, students have expressed growing concerns over affordability, transparency, and policy consistency, particularly as the increases significantly outpace the university’s own stated limits.
