Delhi Private School Admissions for EWS, DG, and Special Needs Students Begin February 3, 2025

Inclusive education initiative sets flexible age limits and clear guidelines for entry-level classes.

 

New Delhi, January 8, 2025 — Admissions for the 2025-26 academic session in Delhi's private schools under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Disadvantaged Groups (DG), and Children with Special Needs (CWSN) categories will commence on February 3, 2025, as per the Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE).

The initiative aims to promote inclusive education by providing equal opportunities for children from marginalized and special needs backgrounds.

Age Criteria for Admission

The DoE has specified the following age limits for entry-level classes as of March 31, 2025:

  • Nursery: 3 to 5 years
  • Kindergarten (KG): 4 to 6 years
  • Class 1: 5 to 7 years

For children with special needs, the age limits are more flexible:

  • Nursery: 3 to 7 years
  • Kindergarten (KG): 4 to 8 years
  • Class 1: 5 to 9 years

Applicants in the CWSN category must provide a government-issued disability certificate but are exempt from submitting an income certificate.

Application Timeline

  • Start of Online Applications: February 3, 2025
  • Application Deadline: February 19, 2025
  • First Draw of Lots: March 3, 2025

Eligibility Criteria

  • EWS Category: Families earning less than ₹5 lakh annually are eligible. A valid income certificate issued by the Delhi Revenue Department is mandatory. Families with Below Poverty Line (BPL) or Antyodaya Anna Yojana ration cards are also eligible.
  • Disadvantaged Groups (DG) Category: Includes children from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBC - Non-Creamy Layer), orphans, transgender children, and those living with HIV.

Parents and guardians are advised to ensure all necessary documents, such as income and disability certificates, are prepared in advance and to complete the application process within the stipulated timeline.

This initiative underscores Delhi’s commitment to fostering an inclusive education system, ensuring children from diverse backgrounds have access to quality education.
