Delhi Government Launches Heritage Clubs in 75 CM Shri Government Schools

The initiative is being implemented by the Department of Art, Culture and Language and the Delhi Archives. Under the Heritage Clubs, students will participate in year-round activities such as heritage walks, museum and archive visits, heritage quizzes, traditional art activities, digital storytelling, local history projects and Heritage Festivals.

Addressing the launch event, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that merely studying history is not enough and that it is important for children to understand their roots and develop a direct connection with their city's heritage.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said Delhi has a rich history encompassing different historical periods, cultural traditions, religious sites, monuments and architectural heritage.

She said the Heritage Clubs will allow students to go beyond learning about history from textbooks and provide opportunities to see, understand and experience Delhi's heritage first-hand.

The Chief Minister emphasised that understanding heritage is also about understanding one's city and roots. Students will be encouraged to learn about the significance of historical buildings and sites around them and their connection with Delhi's history.

She said the initiative would also provide opportunities for students to learn about historical chapters that have not adequately reached younger generations.
