Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood Urges Students to Become Job Creators at South District Innovation Showcase

Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, while inaugurating the South District Innovation Council (DIC) Competition at CM Shri School, Nanakpura, motivated students to be ‘job creators’ instead of ‘job seekers’. At this event, students exhibited innovations like smart waste management and healthcare technology. Many industry professionals showed interest in funding and mentoring these initiatives and hoped that the inventions would serve as potential startups.

New Delhi, July 27: While being the Chief Guest at the District Innovation Council (DIC) Competition for the South District, Delhi’s Education Minister Ashish Sood, asked the audience to develop an entrepreneurial frame of mind and become ‘job creators’ rather than ‘job seekers’.

While addressing the students, Shri Sood said that to build a strong nation, early entrepreneurship, continuous innovation, and self-reliance should be encouraged. He urged the young innovators to work on real-life problems and think of challenges that they can solve. He asked them to look at failures as learning opportunities and not be disheartened by them.

Shri Sood said that the government of Delhi works to create an educational infrastructure where children feel confident to innovate and are willing to experiment and take calculated risks. While interacting with the participating teams, the Education Minister evaluated many student-created models and appreciated the creativity and relevance of their ideas.

Among the innovations, the students presented the Smart Segregation Dustbin, which would automatically divide different kinds of waste to improve the recycling process, and the Elderly Care Medicine Alarm, which is a safety initiative to remind senior citizens to take their medicines on time.

Also, the innovation from the students of the Government Boys Senior Secondary School (GBSSS), Deoli, the Street Safety Drone System was aimed at monitoring poorly lit and vulnerable streets in a neighborhood to improve safety. The innovation showcase was supported by entrepreneurs and industry experts who provided students with guidance on how to focus on their ideas and start a business.

Puri announced her investment of ₹50,000 for the skin care application “Eco Blez Tech” after praising its market potential and its team from the Government Co-Educational Senior Secondary School No. 1, Ambedkar Nagar. The funding will allow the team to enhance and develop the application further in the core startup domain. The MSME Director, Ravi Sinha, assured the participants that the young innovators would be provided mentorship with the guidance of the support structures of the government to help develop the ventures from school projects.

The event's speaker, Sapna Yadav, NEEEV Chairperson, explained the initiative at the event and helped develop the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to strengthen students' problem-solving skills and critical and innovative thinking along with entrepreneurial skills. The CM Shri School in Nanakpura hosted the event and brought students from the best-performing teams of the Startup Stormers Zonal Competitions from Zones 23 and 24.

Projects were evaluated for originality, social impact, and the feasibility of the business model, as well as team and presentation skills by a panel of experts. The event focused on entrepreneurial skills training for students through education and innovation.
