CWG 2022: After Day 4 India with 9 Medals at No. 6 position

:- India’s Judoka Sushila Devi Likmabam won the silver medal in the Women’s 48 kg category on Monday

 

New Delhi: India’s Judoka Sushila Devi Likmabam won the silver medal in the Women’s 48 kg category on Monday. This is India’s first medal at CWG 2022 in a sport other than Weightlifting. Another Judoka Vijay Kumar Yadav followed it up by winning the Bronze medal in Men’s 60 kg category. At the end of the day, Harjinder Kaur bagged Bronze in Women’s 71 kg Weightlifting. With these medals, India’s tally has risen to nine medals at the Commonwealth Games 2022. 

Mirabai Chanu won India’s first gold medal on Saturday. Also, weightlifter Sanket Sargar clinched India’s first medal by winning the silver in the men’s 55kg category. Gururaja Poojary then followed it up by winning the bronze medal in the 61kg category. In the Women’s 55 kg category Bindyarani Devi clinched the silver medal

  1. Gold: Mirabai Chanu – Weightlifting women’s 49kg
  2. Gold: Jeremy Lalrinnunga – Weightlifting men’s 67kg
  3. Gold: Achinta Sheuli – Weightlifting men’s 73kg
  4. Silver: Shushila Devi Likmabam – Judo women’s 48kg
  5. Silver: Bindyarani Devi – Weightlifting women’s 55kg
  6. Silver: Sanket Sargar – Weightlifting men’s 55kg
  7. Bronze: Gururaja Poojary – Weightlifting men’s 61kg’
  8. Bronze: Vijay Kumar Yadav – Judo men’s 60kg
  9. Bronze: Harjinder Kaur – Weightlifting women’s 71kg

India stands at the 6th position. Australia is first with 71 total medals followed by England with 54 medals and New Zealand with 24 medals.

More than 5000 athletes from 72 nations are set to fight for medals in 20 different sports in the upcoming edition of the multinational event. 215 athletes will represent the country in this year’s edition and they all will be playing at Birmingham with the sole aim of bagging medals and making their country proud.
