Haryana: Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh organized the 1st Prof. Moolchand Sharma Memorial Lecture to recognize and celebrate the legacy of its founding Vice-Chancellor, Late Prof. Moolchand Sharma. The event was held in Prof. Moolchand Sharma Auditorium in both online and offline modes and was joined by his family members, friends, colleagues, former students, and CUH fraternity. Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri, former judge of Supreme Court of India, graced the occasion as the key-note speaker. All the dignitaries of the university, including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, DSW, etc., attended the program.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, expressed his gratitude and respect for Prof. Sharma and suggested that the event could be organized every year so that the coming generations of students would get their inspiration from Prof. Sharma’s life and work. He also thanked Justice Sikri for accepting the invitation for delivering the key-note lecture. Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri delivered the 1st Prof. Moolchand Sharma Memorial Lecture on Fundamental Duties. Remembering Prof. Sharma as an advocate of human rights, he reminded the audience that he was equally a firm believer in duties. Justice Sikri gave a thorough account of the fundamental duties enshrined in our constitution and clearly stated that it’s only by performing our duties in the spirit of the constitution that we could reclaim India her lost glory.
The first half of the event titled “Prof. Moolchand Sharma: Beautiful Reminiscences” was dedicated to remembering and paying homage to Prof. Sharma. It was, for all, a moment of mixed emotions of love, gratitude, and loss. Prof. Sharma’s friends, colleagues, and former students maintained unanimously that he was an excellent thinker with a noble mind. Dr. Renu Yadav gave a brief about Prof. Sharma’s life and works. Prof. V. K. N. Bansal, Punjab University; Mr. Ashok Arora, Ex Secretary, Supreme Court Bar Association; Dr. Indu Yadav, former faculty, CUH; Prof. Anand Sharma, Dr. Pradeep Singh, Dr. A.P. Sharma, Dr. Snehsata from CUH and many more talked about the academic excellence and personal humility of Late Prof. Sharma. While sharing their experiences, the students emphasized that he was an extraordinary teacher who inspired them, motivated them, surprised them, and challenged them at the same time. One of the students said that Prof. Sharma inculcated in his students the habit of logical thinking. Dr. Krishna Arya, a CUH alumnus, expressed her love and respect for Prof. Sharma through a song written and composed by her.
It was a heavy moment when Dr. Pawan Sharma and her daughter, Ms. Divya, shared their feelings about Prof. Sharma. They maintained that CUH was like a family to Prof. Sharma and his sole dream was to see the university growing and achieving great excellence in research and innovation. They thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, and his team for organizing the event in Prof. Sharma’s memory. The program ended with a vote of thanks given by Prof. Anand Sharma.
