CUH Hosts North Zone Inter University Volleyball (Men) Tournament | 26 Teams Compete in Mahendergarh

Central University of Haryana inaugurates the North Zone Inter-University Volleyball (Men) Tournament 2025–26 with 26 teams from across North India. Arjuna Awardee Sanjay Phogat graces the event as Chief Guest. Highlights, dignitaries, and key insights.

Mahendergarh ; The Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh, inaugurated the North Zone Inter-University Volleyball (Men) Tournament 2025–26 on Tuesday. Organized in collaboration with the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), the four-day tournament has brought together 26 university teams from across North India for a vibrant display of sportsmanship and competitive spirit.

The tournament was inaugurated by Arjuna Awardee and internationally renowned volleyball player Mr. Sanjay Phogat, who attended as the Chief Guest. Mr. Jagdeep Singh Sheoran graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. The ceremony was presided over by CUH Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar. Several distinguished dignitaries, including AIU Observer Mr. Birender Hooda, BJR&D Director Mr. Manish Yadav, SD College Director Ms. Archana Thakur, and International Referee Mr. Mahender Singh, were also present.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar expressed pride in CUH hosting the prestigious event and stressed the role of sports in fostering holistic development among students. He emphasized that true sportsmanship goes beyond winning and losing, and extended gratitude to the esteemed guests, especially Mr. Phogat, for inspiring the young athletes.

Addressing the participants, Mr. Sanjay Phogat congratulated the university for its efficient organization of the tournament. He advised players to stay disciplined and dedicated—qualities essential for success. He also raised concern about the growing issue of substance abuse among the youth and highlighted how involvement in sports can effectively prevent such tendencies.

Mr. Jagdeep Singh Sheoran praised CUH for successfully hosting a national-level sports event of this magnitude. He acknowledged the relentless efforts of the university administration and the sports council in making the tournament a reality.

The welcome address was delivered by Prof. Ravinder Pal Ahlawat from the Department of Physical Education and Sports. Mementos were later presented to the Chief Guest, Vice-Chancellor, and other dignitaries.

Dr. Sandeep Dhull, Secretary of the CUH Sports Council, informed that over 100 applications were received for the tournament, from which 26 teams were shortlisted. Participating institutions include the University of Delhi, Jamia Millia Islamia, HNB Garhwal University, Central University of Punjab, Kumaun University Nainital, Shri Vishwakarma Skill University, Sports University of Haryana, and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. J.P. Bhuker, Head of the Department.
