New Delhi.: The Department of Microbiology, Central University of Haryana (CUH), Mahendergarh, successfully hosted a five-day Global Initiative on Academic Network (GIAN) workshop titled "Tools and Techniques for Life Cycle Analysis of Biofuels" from January 27 to January 31, 2025 to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) as a critical tool for assessing the sustainability of biofuel production. This workshop brought together leading experts, researchers, and students from across the globe to explore the pressing energy challenges of the 21st century and the promise of biofuels as sustainable energy sources.
The valedictory ceremony marked the formal conclusion of the workshop. The Chief Guest Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, emphasized the importance of research-driven solutions in bioenergy and congratulated the organizing committee for curating an insightful program and awarded certificates to all participants, appreciating their commitment to advancing knowledge in bioenergy research.Prof.Suneel Kumar, Registrar and Prof. Dinesh Kumar Gupta,Dean of School of Interdisciplinary and Applied Sciencesalso appreciated the event and emphasized the University's commitment to empowering future scientists and researchers in the field of renewable energy.
The event was organized under the patronage of Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar,Vice-Chancellor of CUH, with Prof. Surender Singh serving as the course coordinator. The organizing team, including Prof. Vikas Beniwal, Prof. Gunjan Goel, Dr. Jitender Kumar Saini, Dr. Puja Yadav, Dr. Avijit Pramanik, and Dr. Vinod Yadav, ensured the smooth execution of this intensive program.
The workshop featured globally acclaimed experts like Dr. GerfriedJungmeier, a pioneer in sustainable transportation systems whose discussions included the global status of biofuels and the journey of biomass to ethanol, shedding light on the challenges and opportunities in the bioenergy sector. Esteemed faculty from renowned institutions such as Dr. Jasvinder Singh from CSIR-IIP andDr. Shireesh Srivastava from ICGEB, New Delhi, contributed their insights. A notable session by Dr. Jitendra Kumar Saini covered strategies to mitigate inhibitors in lignocellulosic biorefineries, a critical challenge for the industry.
Prof. Vikas Beniwal delivered a lecture on estimating cellulase enzymes followed by hands-on experience, bridging theory and practice.Participants also gained insights into software and databases used in LCA for biofuels and reviewed real-world case studies.Attendees were engaged in group work, demonstrating their learning and collaborative problem-solving skillsfollowed by an examinationto assess their understanding. The event concluded with acknowledgments to the organizing committee, faculty, and participants for their contributions. The GIAN workshop not only inspired young researchers but also strengthened international academic ties, paving the way for future innovations in biofuel technologies.
