Two Disruptions. One Week. Hundreds of Thousands of Students Left Confused.

New Delhi. : The Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG) 2026 has encountered two distinctly separate disruptions within the span of only seven days and impacted over 15.68 lakh students who are depending on this assessment to enter central universities and numerous other key institutions across the country.

The first disruption took place on May 24, 2026. That evening, the National Testing Agency (NTA) made an announcement that all exams scheduled for May 28, in both the morning and the afternoon, would be postponed. The reason was both simple and very late. The Government of India decided to officially change the date for Id-ul-Zuha, also called Bakrid, which would now occur on May 28. Following a formal communication by the Department of Personnel and Training, NTA posted on X, stating that a change in the exam dates would be communicated.

Three days later, on May 27, NTA announced the revised exam dates for the postponed May 28 exams would be May 31, June 6, and June 7, 2026, while also issuing new admit cards for the May 31 exam.

May 30 Glitch Affects TCS Exam Centers

After the exam delay on May 28, students were rescheduling and regrouping when they were hit with an even bigger setback. On May 30, a TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) glitch caused multiple exam centers to freeze, and the first exam sessions remained unable to start.

The NTA (National Testing Agency) made an announcement to confirm the TCS glitch and stated the CUET (Common Universities Entrance Test) for the year 2026 was postponed on May 30, due to a technical error on the part of TCS, and that the problem was resolved with full compensatory time for the participants.

Some test takers in Jodhpur, and likely other exam centers, reported that they were left to do nothing for about an hour. Almost immediately after, test takers and parents vented their frustration on social media. TCS released their own official statement and described the issue as a technical error of about 2 hours for the morning shift, and claimed their teams were able to identify and rectify the error, and that the test remained without disruption to the integrity of the exam.
