CU Punjab Secures Nature Index 2026 Ranking with High Impact Global Research

Central University of Punjab has been awarded the 119th position of the Indian universities in the Nature Index Institution Rankings 2026. It has published 9 high-performance research papers in global high-impact journals like Nature Medicine and The Lancet, establishing itself among the top research-based universities in India.

Bathinda, July 3: Bathinda’s Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab) has achieved national recognition for research excellence and improved its ranking by 10 places to 119 among Indian academic institutions in the Nature Index Institution Rankings 2026. With nine publications in 2022, CU Punjab's research shows an increasing quality and impact, and the publications had a Share score of 1.78.

Nature Index ranks institutions by counting research papers published in the top international journals in the natural sciences, health sciences, and social and applied sciences. Research from CU Punjab has been published in the journals of Advanced Functional Materials, Angewandte Chemie International Edition, Inorganic Chemistry, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Nature Medicine, and The Lancet. Research from CU Punjab is in the areas of advanced materials, sustainable chemistry, and research related to nanotechnology, energy storage, and the conversion of carbon dioxide, along with research in global health.

CU Punjab has also contributed to a number of studies on the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) published in Nature Medicine and The Lancet, and these studies have addressed the growing health concerns of dietary iron deficiency and chronic respiratory diseases, along with substance use disorders and cancer. This recognition of CU Punjab is a result of the hardworking faculty and researchers, such as Prof. Jasvinder Singh Bhatti, Prof. S.K. Mahapatra, Prof. Rajendra S. Dhayal, Prof. Baljinder Singh, Prof. Mukesh Kumar Yadav, Dr. Balachandar Vellingiri, Dr. Mahalaxmi Iyer, Dr. Amit Singh, and Dr. Ujjawal Sharma, all of whom have improved the research stature of CU Punjab.

Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari stated that having top standings in rankings by Nature Index shows that the University focuses on quality research, innovation, and international collaborations. The Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the researchers for their efforts in solving and focusing on critical issues in science/society and for improving the University’s position in global rankings.

Recognition in the Nature Index Institution Rankings 2026 consolidates and affirms CU Punjab's position as a leading research-driven university and shows commitment to high-impact research in advancing science and developing the nation.
