In a time when climate change and habitat loss are growing concerns, the Central University of Punjab in Bathinda is showing how small actions can lead to meaningful impact. Through its innovative workshop titled Build a Nest Save the Earth, the university created an engaging platform where environmental awareness met real world application.
Organized by the Department of Environmental Science and Technology, the workshop brought together 232 participants including university students and school children from nearby institutions. The initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology under the Environmental Education Programme and Mission LiFE, supported by the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change Government of India.
What made this workshop stand out was its hands on nature. Participants did not just learn about conservation in theory. They actively built bird nests, understanding how such simple structures can help protect avian species struggling due to deforestation and urbanization. The session was led by environmental expert Manoj Lila Bhatt from Ecoroot Foundation, who demonstrated practical nest making techniques and explained their ecological significance.
Vice Chancellor Prof Raghavendra P Tiwari addressed the participants with a strong message that humans, as the most organized species, carry the responsibility to protect other forms of life. He emphasized that even small steps like building nests can symbolize coexistence and trigger larger environmental change when adopted widely.
The workshop also highlighted the importance of nurturing environmental values at a young age. Prof Yogalakshmi KN pointed out that such initiatives go beyond skill development and help instill ecological consciousness. Prof Sunil Mittal further connected biodiversity conservation with responsible lifestyle choices and groundwater preservation.
The event concluded with Prof Vinod K Garg appreciating the active participation and reiterating the importance of combining education with action. The workshop successfully demonstrated how institutions can inspire young minds to become eco warriors and contribute to a sustainable future.
By transforming awareness into action, Central University of Punjab is not just educating students but shaping a generation that understands its role in protecting the planet.
