New Delhi: The 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships 2026 concluded with a lavish ceremony on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at The Thyagaraj Sports Complex, New Delhi. The illustrious Chief Minister of Delhi, Smt. Rekha Gupta was the Chief Guest at the event. The Hon'ble Minister for Education & Sports, Shri Ashish Sood was the Guest of Honour at the Samaroh.
While addressing the people, Shri Ashish Sood mentioned that, under the clear sporting vision of Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, Delhi was privileged to host the 22nd Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships 2026, a prestigious international event. He remarked that, apart from exhibiting the prowess of the capital city of India in organizing such an event, the championship served a historical purpose of motivating, inspiring, and igniting the thousands of students and citizens of the capital city to work for excellence in sports.
While congratulating the Indian team for their Golden success in both the Men’s and Women’s Teams, Shri Sood mentioned that the players made the nation proud by their great performances. He also mentioned that the sportsmanship, discipline and high standard of play were shown by all the athletes who participated in the championship, including athletes from Malaysia, Singapore, England and Australia.
Shri Sood elaborated that athletes of 25 Commonwealth nations participated in the championship, and for all the athletes who participated in the championship, it was a great and powerful message that even though the nations are separated from each other by geographical boundaries, in the world of sports, there are no boundaries. The athletes participated in the championship as true ambassadors of friendship, mutual respect, and global unity.
He continued that due to the ongoing influences of Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta and Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Delhi Government is focusing its efforts to develop Delhi, not just as the political capital of the country, but as the Sports Capital of India. He stated that the young people of the country get the chance to witness world-class athletes who compete at such a high level, and it helps them to develop a greater love for the sport and inspires them to bring home more medals in the future.
Shri Sood thanked the Commonwealth Table Tennis Federation (CTTF), the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), the Organising Committee, and the technical officials, coaches, volunteers and athletes of all the nations for their participation and making this championship a great success. He was sure that this championship would leave a mark for the bright future of Indian Sports and would cultivate the Indian Sports movement.
