New Delhi: Technologies such as digital learning and online payments are embedding themselves deeper in our daily lives. Likewise, social media is becoming more prevalent and pervasive. Students, teachers and families must learn to recognise the related risks. Responsible use of technology should be practiced by all. The Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), an organ of the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is offering a training programme “Safety in Cyber Space” from 19th to 30th October, 2026 to promote awareness and understanding in this regard.
Cyber Security Awareness Month is an international event celebrated every November and organised by the United States government. NCERT is celebrating the event under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. Through this programme, participants will know common online risks, learn methods to protect their personal data and learn how to recognise digital/online frauds. The NCERT official activity page of CIET says that the sessions will be telecast live on NCERT’s official YouTube channel and will be available on PM e-Vidya DTH TV channels (6-12). How to Get a Certificate Through DIKSHA
Participating in the live sessions is different from getting a course certificate. If learners want to get a digital certificate, they have to complete the online course requirements through DIKSHA. The CIET-NCERT page says the course enrollment will be opened on 31st October 2026 and closed on 10th March 2027. The course will be closed on 15th March 2027.
Participants need to access the course, go through the digital materials of the course, complete the required tasks, give their feedback and take the final exam. To qualify for the certificate, participants must score 70% in the final exam within the three attempts. The certificate will be available on the participant’s profile and also in DigiLocker. The link to the DIKSHA course will be available once enrollment is opened and participants should keep an eye on the page for any updates rather than using unofficial enrollment links.
Why This Training Matters for Students and Teachers
A single unsafe click can expose personal information, compromise an account or lead to financial loss. For students and educators, digital safety also involves protecting children from harmful online content, responding appropriately to cyberbullying and understanding the privacy implications of emerging technologies.
By combining cybersecurity awareness with topics such as digital wellness, online ethics and AI safety, the CIET-NCERT programme offers a structured opportunity to build safer digital habits. Students, teachers, teacher educators and other interested learners can use the sessions to strengthen their understanding of online risks and responsible technology use.
