Hyderabad - Padma Shri awardee and noted child rights activist Shanta Sinha has asserted that every child who remains outside the formal schooling system should be considered a child labourer, terming it a grave failure of society. She made these remarks while addressing the 36th Annual Day Cultural Meet of Sister Nivedita School, held at Shilpakala Vedika on Thursday evening.
Speaking as the Chief Guest, Shanta Sinha emphasised that parental responsibility does not end with merely enrolling children in school. She underlined the importance of protecting childhood, nurturing curiosity, and ensuring the holistic development of children, describing it as a shared responsibility of families, institutions, and society
She also cautioned parents against the excessive use of mobile phones and tablets for children, warning that unrestricted digital exposure at home and school poses serious risk of to children's mental well-being and creativity. Stressing the need to preserve childhood in its true spirits, she said children must grow in a free, open and supportive environment enriched with real life experiences and meaningful memories.
Addressing the gathering as a special guest, Dr. W. G. Prasanna Kumar, Honourable President of the National Environmental Education Academic Network, described schooling as a joyful and transformative journey. He urged parents to spend quality time with their children and highlighted the importance of introducing nature and environmental awareness at an early age.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Sudhakar Rao Polsani, Chairman of Sister Nivedita School, expressed gratitude to the institution’s Founder Chairman Dr. Velchala Kondala Rao for his continued guidance and support. He attributed the school’s consistent academic excellence to the dedication of its teaching faculty and the personalised attention provided to every student.
Dr. T. Lalitha, Principal of Sister Nivedita School, presented the annual progress report and highlighted student's achievements in academics and co-curricular activities. The program also featured vibrant cultural performances by students, showcasing their artistic talents and receiving enthusiastic applause from the audience.
