Raipur: On Hindi Diwas, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced that the MBBS course in the state will now be available in Hindi from the current academic session. This decision aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of delivering medical education in Hindi, as mentioned during his 2022 rally in Uttar Pradesh.
“Our government is pleased to make this significant change on Hindi Diwas. Starting this session (2024-25), the MBBS curriculum will be offered in Hindi. Hindi textbooks and study materials will be introduced in the first year,” Sai stated to local reporters.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to revise the education policy, moving away from the traditional Macaulay system. Sai also claimed that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has been fully implemented in Chhattisgarh.
The introduction of Hindi as a medium of instruction is expected to benefit students from rural areas, who predominantly come from Hindi-medium backgrounds. By studying in their native language, these students will gain a stronger foundational understanding of medical subjects, enhancing their ability to become proficient doctors.
Hindi Diwas, celebrated annually on September 14, marks the 1949 decision by the Constituent Assembly to designate Hindi, written in the Devanagari script, as the official language of India.
