Chandigarh Revamps ITI Syllabus With Future Ready Technical Courses

To mark World Youth Skills Day on July 15, 2026, the Chandigarh administration has announced a sweeping overhaul of its vocational education system, replacing outdated subjects with future-ready industrial courses. Driven by rapid advancements in automation and AI, the Centre for Skill Development at Panjab University alongside regional ITIs will launch specialized programs in drone technology, geoinformatics, green hydrogen, and advanced healthcare caregiving. To secure robust campus placements and bolster practical training, ITI Sector 28 has collaborated with Maruti Suzuki to establish an on-campus prototype assembly lab, providing students with direct, hands-on experience handling real factory equipment.

Today is July 15, and the whole world is celebrating World Youth Skills Day. On this special day, Chandigarh is taking a very big step. The education and skill department here are changing their system very fast. The main reason is that AI and computers are changing everything nowadays. So, the vocational institutes and ITIs in Chandigarh has decided to teach new things to the students.

Earlier, students used to learn old things like stenography, simple typing, and old mechanics work. But now, these old courses are going to stop soon because automation can do these things easily. Experts says that if students do not learn new skills, they will not get any jobs in the future. That is why Chandigarh is changing the whole syllabus.

New Courses Introduced to Replace Old Outdated Subjects :

The Centre for Skill Development in Panjab University and different ITIs like Sector 11 and Sector 28 is launching new courses. Now they will teach things like drone technology, geoinformatics, and green hydrogen. These terms sounds big but the institutes will teach them in a very simple way so every student can learn easily. Even short-term courses for specialized caregiving are also starting for health sector jobs.

The government want that every student should become ready for the future industry. A senior official from the skill department told that we cannot teach 10-year-old things to students anymore. If technology is changing, our schools and colleges must change too. Students are also very excited because they will get to learn practical things instead of just reading thick books.

Big Partnership with Industry for Practical Learning :

Learning only from books does not help in getting a job. Therefore, ITI Sector 28 have made a huge partnership with Maruti Suzuki company. Together, they have set up a new prototype assembly lab inside the campus. In this lab, students can work on real car parts and see how big factories actually works.

This new lab is fully complete and ready now. The inauguration will happen very soon by the higher officials. When students work with their own hands in these labs, they get real confidence. Big companies also like to hire those students who already knows how to operate big machines. This partnership will bring more companies to Chandigarh for campus placements.

What This Means for Students and Job Seekers :

This news is very important for all the students who are looking for admissions this year. The admission process for these new skill courses is opening up. If you take admission in these new-age courses, your chances of getting a good salary package becomes much higher. The government is also planning to give special scholarships to students who performs well in these AI and technical fields.

Also, these courses are not just for boys. The government is encouraging girl students to take up drone technology and IT courses. Many seats are reserved so that everyone get an equal chance to grow. The main target of Chandigarh administration is to make the youth self-dependent so they can start their own business also.
