Centre, West Bengal, Discuss NEP 2020, PM SHRI Schools and Education Reforms

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan engaged in senior-level discussions with West Bengal’s education ministers to analyze the execution of NEP 2020 and examine the growth of PM SHRI Schools, Samagra Shiksha, PM-USHA, PM POSHAN, and other principal education programs in the state.

West Bengal Holds High-Level Talks on NEP 2020, PM SHRI and Education Reforms

The Union Government and the West Bengal Government have initiated a new phase of cooperation in the education sector. In New Delhi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan met the West Bengal Minister for Higher and Technical Education, Jagannath Chattopadhyay, and the Minister for School Education, Dipak Barman, and conducted a detailed review of some priority education programs and planned educational reforms in West Bengal. The meeting concentrated on advancing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in West Bengal and extending Central Educational Schemes to the State.

 

Centre Assures Support for Implementation of NEP 2020

While meeting the ministers, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan guaranteed the ministers that the Centre would extend all possible support to West Bengal for the implementation of NEP 2020.

Reportedly, the Ministry of Education mentioned that the primary objective of the meeting was to revitalize and reconstruct the education ecosystem in West Bengal in consonance with the National Education Policy and its vision, and the Center guaranteed that various forums would be used to organize the preliminary phase of planning and institutional reforms for the improvement of both School and Higher Education in the State.

 

Summary of Key Education Schemes

The meeting addressed the extension, funding, and execution of flagship education schemes by the West Bengal MoE.

The following schemes were mentioned:

  • Samagra Shiksha
  • PM-USHA (Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan)
  • PM POSHAN
  • ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram
  • PM SHRI Schools

Officials discussed the allocation of schemes and the execution of schemes to bolster education infrastructure and learning outcomes.

 

Expansion of PM SHRI Schools

An important result of the meeting was the expansion of the PM SHRI Schools.

As per the MoE, PM SHRI Schools will be expanded to the covered blocks and to the newly covered urban local bodies. This is expected to improve the locations of West Bengal with modern school infrastructure and the quality of education.

 

Attendance of Senior Officials

The meeting was attended by Dr. Vineet Joshi, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education and the Department of School Education & Literacy, and by senior officials of the Union Ministry of Education and the West Bengal Government.

The meeting shows the Centre's interest in working with the state on education reforms and improving the coordination with education institutions.
