NEW DELHI: In a significant move towards inclusive education, the Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL) under the Ministry of Education India has launched Career Cards for Children with Special Needs (CwSN). The initiative was unveiled by Sanjay Kumar in New Delhi, aiming to provide structured and accessible career guidance to students with disabilities across the country. Developed in collaboration with leading organisations such as UNICEF India, NCERT and Pratham Education Foundation, the initiative builds on earlier efforts to strengthen career awareness among students. Out of the existing 500 career cards, around 150 cards have now been specially adapted for children with special needs including availability in Braille format, making them more accessible and inclusive.
The Career Cards are designed to help students explore different professions by providing simple, easy-to-understand information on job roles, required qualifications and career pathways. These resources will also assist teachers and counsellors in guiding students towards making informed academic and professional choices, ensuring that disability does not become a barrier to career exploration. Officials highlighted that the initiative is rooted in the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework (NCF-SE) 2023 which emphasise equity, inclusion, and skill development. The government has also stressed the importance of early identification of students with special needs and strengthening teacher training systems to support inclusive classrooms.
Education experts view this as a crucial step towards building a more equitable and student-centric education system where every learner is empowered to pursue their aspirations. By integrating career guidance with accessibility, the initiative aims to ensure that no student is left behind in India’s journey towards a knowledge-driven and inclusive future.
