CBSE Veer Gatha 6.0: Schools to Conduct Activities on Gallantry Awardees, Submit Entries by October 19

The initiative aims to introduce students to the stories of gallantry award winners and their acts of bravery while encouraging patriotism, civic consciousness and respect for the values demonstrated by India's brave hearts.

Under Veer Gatha 6.0, students will participate in interdisciplinary and art-integrated activities including poems, paragraphs, essays, paintings, drawings, multimedia presentations and short videos based on gallantry awardees, India's military traditions and stories of courageous warriors.

Schools are required to conduct the activities at their own level and upload their selected entries on the MyGov portal between October 5 and October 19, 2026.

What is Project Veer Gatha?

Project Veer Gatha was instituted in 2021 to disseminate information about the acts of bravery and life stories of gallantry award winners among school students.

The project seeks to use creative and educational activities to help students understand the courage, sacrifice and values associated with India's gallantry awardees.

Students participating in the project can express their understanding through different forms of creative work, including writing, visual art and multimedia.

The best entries are evaluated at different levels, with national-level winners recognised jointly by the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Education.

Veer Gatha 6.0 Activities for Students

The activities under Veer Gatha 6.0 vary according to the student's educational stage.

Preparatory Stage: Grades 3 to 5

Students in Grades 3 to 5 can participate through:

• Poem
• Paragraph of up to 150 words
• Painting
• Drawing

Suggested themes include writing about a gallantry award winner who inspires the student and the values learned from their life.

Students can also explore the sacrifice of a gallantry award winner and explain how they would preserve that person's memory.

Another suggested theme focuses on the spirit and military strategies of historical warriors such as Prithviraj Chauhan, King Kharavela of Kalinga, Shivaji, warriors of the 1857 uprising and tribal uprisings.

Middle Stage: Grades 6 to 8

Students in Grades 6 to 8 can participate through:

• Poem
• Paragraph of up to 300 words
• Painting
• Drawing
• Multimedia presentation
• Short video covering anchoring, storytelling or reporting of a war

Secondary Stage: Grades 9 to 12

Students in Grades 9 to 12 can participate through:

• Poem
• Essay of up to 750 words
• Painting
• Drawing
• Multimedia presentation
• Short video covering anchoring, storytelling or reporting of a war

For the national-level selection, the Secondary Stage is further divided into Grades 9-10 and Grades 11-12.

Veer Gatha 6.0 Important Dates

The CBSE circular specifies the following timeline for Veer Gatha 6.0:

By October 4, 2026

• Schools should organise virtual or face-to-face interactions with gallantry award winners, wherever scheduled.
• Schools should conduct the prescribed Veer Gatha activities.
• Schools will evaluate the entries at their own level.

October 5 to October 19, 2026

• Schools must upload their shortlisted entries on the common MyGov portal.
• Schools are advised not to wait until the last date and should upload entries once their school-level evaluation and shortlisting are completed.

How Many Entries Can Each School Submit?

Schools are required to submit one best entry per applicable category, with a total of four entries from each school under the prescribed framework.

The submission structure is as follows:

Schools up to Grade 10

• One best entry from Category 1: Grades 3-5
• One best entry from Category 2: Grades 6-8
• One best entry from Category 3: Grades 9-10
• One additional best entry from any of the three categories
• Total: 4 entries

Schools up to Grade 8

• One best entry from Category 1
• One best entry from Category 2
• Two additional best entries from either Category 1 or Category 2
• Total: 4 entries

Schools up to Grade 5

• Four best entries from Category 1
• Total: 4 entries

CBSE has clarified that schools should complete the activity and selection process without waiting for the final submission date.

Veer Gatha 6.0 Winners

The project will recognise winners at the national, State/UT and district levels.

National Level: Super 100

A total of 100 students will be selected as national-level winners.

The distribution will be:

• 25 winners from Grades 3-5
• 25 winners from Grades 6-8
• 25 winners from Grades 9-10
• 25 winners from Grades 11-12

CBSE has specifically stated that students who were national-level Veer Gatha winners in earlier editions will not be included in the Super 100 of Veer Gatha 6.0.

State/UT Level

The State/UT level will have 8 winners:

• 2 winners from Grades 3-5
• 2 winners from Grades 6-8
• 2 winners from Grades 9-10
• 2 winners from Grades 11-12

Students already selected in the national-level Super 100 will not be included in the State/UT-level selection.

District Level

There will be 4 district-level winners:

• 1 winner from Grades 3-5
• 1 winner from Grades 6-8
• 1 winner from Grades 9-10
• 1 winner from Grades 11-12

Students already selected at the national or State/UT level will not be included in the district-level selection.

₹10,000 Cash Prize for National Winners

Each of the 100 national-level Super 100 winners will receive a cash prize of ₹10,000 from the Ministry of Defence.

National-level winners will be jointly felicitated by the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Education, Government of India.

Certificates will also be awarded to the selected students.

The State/UT and district-level winners will be felicitated by the respective authorities. The modalities of prizes at these levels will be decided by the concerned State/UT and district authorities.

Veer Gatha 6.0 Certificate

Certificates will be provided to winners at different levels.

• Super 100: Certificate jointly issued by the Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Education.
• State/UT winners: Certificate issued by the competent authority designated by the concerned Education Department.
• District winners: Certificate issued by the designated district and education authorities.

Common MyGov Portal for Entry Submission

CBSE has stated that a common MyGov portal will be used for submission of Veer Gatha 6.0 entries.

CBSE-affiliated schools located outside India will also submit their entries online after conducting evaluation at the school level.

Schools are expected to complete their internal evaluation and select the required number of best entries before uploading them.

Veer Gatha Awareness Programmes

As part of Veer Gatha 6.0, the Ministry of Defence will organise virtual and face-to-face awareness programmes or sessions for schools across India.

The details regarding the venues and timings of these programmes will be shared separately.

These sessions are intended to help students learn more about gallantry awardees and the broader purpose of the Veer Gatha initiative.

Veer Gatha Corner in CBSE Schools

CBSE has also requested schools to establish a dedicated "Veer Gatha Corner".

The corner can focus on:

• Gallantry award winners
• Military traditions or "Samarik Parampara"
• Military strategies
• Wars and struggles of great warriors
• Stories of soldiers and rulers
• Student creative work related to Veer Gatha

The initiative is intended to provide a continuing platform for student talent and awareness beyond the specific competition activities.

The CBSE circular recommends the Gallantry Awards website for information about India's brave hearts and an NCERT publication on Param Vir Chakra awardees as reference material.

Schools should use reliable and appropriate sources when guiding students in preparing their entries, particularly when presenting historical facts about military operations, wars or gallantry awardees.
