Innovative skill-based projects complemented career guidance and wellness sessions conducted by the students of Kollam, Visakhapatnam and Tumakuru at the CBSE Skill Expo & Guidance Festival 2026-27. The event introduced features of the NEP 2020 in the spirit of experiential learning and active student engagement with skills.

Innovative Ideas Galore at CBSE Skill Expo 2026.

From 5-6 December 2026, the inaugural CBSE Skill Expo & Guidance Festival brought together students, teachers, education leaders and experts from Kollam (Kerala), Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), and Tumakuru (Karnataka) around the concepts of creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Biswajit Saha, Professor and Director (Skill Education), CBSE, and was another milestone towards the implementation of the Indian National Education Policy (NEP), 2020, in terms of focusing on strengthening skill education.

Beyond textbook education, both participants and presenters alike were gathered through the many innovative projects displayed by students, which tackled real world problems. The participants were also able to refine their understanding of educational and career pathways through the many well-being and career development sessions held by various experts.

Through experiential learning and innovation, students were able to demonstrate their work related to robotics and other technological prototypes to the attendees of the event.

Skill-Based Learning at the Skill Expo

Skill Expo provides an opportunity for students to strengthen their skills through creativity and problem solving by developing solutions to challenges they may face in the real world.

Many student teams presented projects utilizing new technologies and engineering concepts for sustainability. The expo focused on community impact and encouraged participants to articulate how their community-focused innovations could solve real-world problems.

Some notable features included:

  • Students created prototypes for new innovations and technologies.
  • Robotics and engineering demonstrations.
  • Exhibits that promote design thinking and were interactive.
  • Expert-led career guidance.
  • Programs to promote awareness of wellbeing and future careers.

The initiative reflects CBSE's focus on combining traditional education with vocational learning. The aim is to give students the opportunity to learn skills for specific industries while they are still at school.

Supporting the 2020 National Education Policy with Experiential Learning

The Skill Expo supports the 2020 National Education Policy as it promotes learning that is based on experience, assessment based on skills, and the integration of multiple disciplines

Skill Expo allows students to:

  • Learn to communicate and work as a team.
  • Gain confidence by presenting projects.
  • Learn to innovate and create businesses.
  • Connect what they have learned in school to what they will do in the workforce.

Skill education has been rapidly extended to schools that are affiliated with CBSE. Many vocational subjects have been added, and specialized skill development programs have been created for both teachers and students. The CBSE has created new programs to help teachers develop the skills needed to teach the mandatory skill education courses in the new curriculum.

Career Path Development Outside the Box

The Guidance Festival, in addition to the project exhibitions, offered students the chance to participate in informative discussions with career professionals in order to learn about the opportunities and threats developing in newly founded fields.

Sessions helped students determine their own personal strengths in conjunction with the skills and tools needed to thrive in the ever-evolving job market in order to make the best possible decisions with regard to their education. In addition to academic success, the mental health and personal development components were factored in as part of the student well-being focus.

This approach is in step with the CBSE vision of preparing students not just for the board examinations but also for further education, as well as the world of work and the entrepreneurial realm.

A Forum for Future-Ready Skills

The CBSE Skill Expo is now one of the Board's flagship initiatives for the exhibition of students' innovations. Events hosted at the regional level are eventually best showcased at the national level, where more focus is given to a select number of projects.

As stated by the CBSE, in the Skill Expo, the student projects deal with innovations and concepts from diverse domains such as Sustainability, Health and Wellness, Hospitality and Tourism, Future Technologies, and Entrepreneurship, thus providing students the opportunity to conceptualize and address issues in a relevant context.

As the knowledge economy takes off, so too will drives to position India in this market. The CBSE Skill Expo is one such initiative. Under the broad framework of Viksit Bharat and NEP 2020, these initiatives support a skilled and innovative workforce. The projects encourage schools to create an environment where students are supported in coming up with inventions and engaging in construction.
