CBSE Encourages Schools to Promote Income Tax Department’s Motu Patlu Comic Book Series for Tax Awareness
New Delhi, : The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a circular urging all affiliated schools and institutions to share the Income Tax Department’s new comic book series designed to promote tax literacy among school children.
Launched under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative, this innovative comic series—featuring the popular cartoon characters Motu and Patlu—has been developed by the Directorate of Public Relations, Publication & Publicity, Directorate of Income Tax. The engaging set of eight comic books aims to make learning about taxation, financial responsibility, and nation-building both fun and educational for young readers.
About the Motu Patlu Tax Awareness Comic Series
The comic books use humour, relatable storytelling, and colourful illustrations to help children understand the importance of paying taxes and how it contributes to the country’s development. Through the adventures of Motu and Patlu, students are introduced to key tax concepts in a simple, age-appropriate manner.
The series is available free of cost in multiple Indian languages, ensuring accessibility for students across diverse regions.

In the circular issued by CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta, schools have been encouraged to:
