CBSE OSM Controversy 2026 Official X Post Sparks Evaluation Row

The Recent Viral Post on X and Class 12 Answer Sheet Evaluations Draws More Questions on the CBSE OSM Controversy

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education is once again under fire after a recent post on X questioning the objective and clear evaluation of the Class 12 board examinations. The new On-Screen Marking System was aimed at modernising the assessment of answer sheets for the 2026 board examinations. What was intended to refine the evaluation process has turned into a nightmare for the board. A recent post on social media claimed the digital evaluation system has serious design flaws and corroborated the claims of the students who alleged they were delivered the wrong answer sheets, which were unedited.

There are several complaints of altered handwriting, missing pages, blurred copies, and unanticipated score changes after students requested a copy of the evaluated answer book. These complaints gained momentum after a student from Delhi claimed that the uploaded Physics answer sheet under his roll number belonged to another student. The unreliability of the digital evaluation system of one of the most important school examinations in India has rapidly become a nationwide topic of discussion. It is reported that after the announcement of the CBSE Class 12 Results 2026, over four lakh students have requested access to their answer sheets. This shows how serious the students are regarding the evaluations.

The Public Response and the On-Screen Marking System: A Look at One Viral Post

The focus of the viral post has been the ON-Screen Marking System and the security that comes with it. Complaints about evaluation have also included claims of vulnerabilities in a testing portal linked to CBSE. The young cybersecurity researcher who made the claims further added that the evaluation system has weak security. The claims made even more of an impact when CBSE issued a statement that the portal being referenced was a testing environment of a system that was not connected to answer sheet evaluations and that the data was not real. Neither student data, nor student evaluation data, nor student scores were affected.

CBSE also said that the evaluation portal was secure and that no breaches of the evaluation system had been found. The concerns of students were only heightened because the claims were made during a time of heightened frustration when students were airing concerns about answer sheets and result discrepancies. Education system analysts have said the controversy will now be more of a concern of trust and accountability, and of transparency in evaluation, especially when technology is involved.

CBSE Reply, Student Issues and Candidate Next Steps\

The CBSE admits some issues occurred during the On-Screen Mark System rollout and has said it is taking steps to correct these. According to reports from government officials, around twenty mix-up cases occurred during the first stage of the rollout, and over thirteen thousand answer sheets had to undergo evaluation by hand due to problems with the scanning quality.

The board has told students that grievance redressal systems continue to be active, and candidates will be able to continue to verify marks and request a re-evaluation through official channels. Education experts have advised that students should not depend on social media. Instead, gaze critically on the scanned copies that have been processed through official channels. Students who find discrepancies should file the evidence immediately through the CBSE-recommended procedure.

Students have been feeling stressed about this ongoing review process due to the importance of these exams in the college admission process and in qualifying for further career opportunities. As this situation continues to unfold, a large number of candidates are expecting CBSE to provide a better take on their evaluation processes and provide safeguards, as well as a technical audit and an iterative, user-focused improvement of the digital assessment systems. The next few weeks will be of great importance in seeing how the board responds to the concerns from students across India.
