New Delhi: In line with the recommendations of the National Council of Senior Citizens (NCSrC) and directions conveyed by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has advised all affiliated schools to implement specific measures aimed at strengthening inter-generational bonding and promoting the well-being of senior citizens.
As per the guidelines, CBSE schools are encouraged to actively involve grandparents and senior citizens in various school activities and celebrations. Schools may invite grandparents during important national and commemorative occasions such as Independence Day, Bal Diwas, and the International Day of Older Persons. Such initiatives are expected to foster mutual understanding, emotional connection, respect, and value-based learning among students.
The Board has also suggested that schools organize activities like walkathons, where grandparents can walk alongside their grandchildren. These programmes are intended to address issues of loneliness and social isolation often faced by senior citizens, while simultaneously strengthening family and community bonds.
CBSE has further emphasized that all such activities must be conducted in an inclusive, respectful, and dignified manner. Where necessary, schools may provide prior intimation to the concerned authorities or ministries and are advised to maintain proper records of activities undertaken for future reference.
The guidelines reflect CBSE’s broader commitment to holistic education, social responsibility, and the promotion of empathy and respect for elders among students.
The circular has been issued by Dr. Praggya M. Singh, urging schools to play an active role in nurturing inter-generational harmony within the school ecosystem.
