New Delhi.: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released detailed guidelines regarding the submission of the List of Candidates (LOC) for the Class 10 Second Board Examination 2026, aligning with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Under the newly introduced Two Board Examination Policy, notified on 25 June 2025, students will now have an opportunity to improve their performance in up to three subjects during the second board examinations scheduled for May 2026.
LOC Submission Schedule
CBSE has announced a phased schedule for LOC submission:
- Phase 1 LOC Submission: March 18 to March 31, 2026
- Phase 2 & Fee Payment: Begins the next day after result declaration (for 5 days)
- Phase 3 (with Late Fee): From the 7th day after result declaration (for 2 days)
The board emphasized that timely submission will help ensure smooth examination planning.
Key Highlights of the Policy
- Students must appear in the first board examination to be eligible.
- Improvement is allowed in up to 3 subjects (Science, Mathematics, Social Science, Languages).
- Students failing in 3 or more subjects are not eligible for the second exam.
- Students under the compartment category can reappear.
- No subject changes or student data corrections will be allowed.
- No improvement is permitted in internal assessments.
Instructions for Schools & Principals
- CBSE has directed school principals to:
- Educate students and parents about eligibility and rules.
- Encourage students to submit LOC in Phase 1 for better planning.
- Inform that exam centres may be limited and cannot be changed once allotted.
- Ensure accurate data submission to avoid discrepancies.
Additionally, students from Middle East countries (where exams were cancelled) will be allowed to submit LOC in Phase 2.
Eligibility Criteria
- Students eligible for the second board exam include:
- Those who passed and want improvement
- Students placed in compartment category
- Candidates appearing in at least three subjects in the first exam
- Students under specific categories like sports or UFM (if eligible)
However, students who did not appear in three or more subjects or fall under the ER category will not be eligible.
Same Syllabus for Second Exam
- The board clarified that the syllabus and examination scheme for the second board exam will remain identical to the first examination.
- CBSE has urged schools to carefully follow the guidelines and ensure accurate and timely submission of student data.
