New Delhi | January 19, 2026 : The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued Circular No. 03/2026 dated 19 January 2026, introducing an online module on the SARAS portal for schools seeking a change in the nature of their managing entity.
The circular has been issued by Himanshu Gupta, Secretary, CBSE, and is applicable to all CBSE-affiliated schools across the country.
According to the circular, schools can now apply digitally for a change in their legal managing structure, such as conversion from a trust to a society or vice versa, provided there is no change in the existing management or governing body members.
Key Points of the Circular
- A dedicated module has been activated on the SARAS (School Affiliation Re-engineered Automation System) portal
- The facility allows modification only in the nature of the managing entity, not in the management personnel
- The process is fully online, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and regulatory compliance
CBSE clarified that this provision is aimed at helping schools regularize legal or structural changes without disturbing their affiliation status, as long as all other affiliation conditions remain fulfilled.
CBSE’s Objective
By launching this online facility, CBSE aims to:
- Reduce procedural delays and paperwork
- Maintain accurate affiliation records
- Strengthen governance and accountability mechanisms
Schools have been advised to carefully follow the guidelines and submit all required documents through the SARAS portal only.
The circular has been issued with the approval of the Competent Authority, and schools are encouraged to regularly check official CBSE communications for updates.
