CTET 2026 Exam Date: What Candidates Need to Know
New Delhi. : Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is organising the 22nd edition of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) for the September 2026 session. Earlier, the exam date was scheduled on 6th September, 2026, and now it has been moved to 9th October, 2026. Several reports confirm 9th October as the new exam date
The only exception is that CBSE's publicly accessible CTET documents contain the original notification of the 6th September exam date, and as of now, several education reports show it is moved to 9th October. So, pending a CBSE notification reflecting on the official website, candidates should consider the 9th October as the revised exam date.

The original CTET notification stated that Paper II shall be conducted between 9:30 AM-12:00 PM and Paper I between 02:30 PM-5:00 PM. The original notification also stated that if there was a large number of applicants for the exam, then the exam could be held on the 5th of September, 2026.
What is City Intimation Slip?
The CTET city intimation slip is sent before the admit card and informs the candidate of the city of examination. It should not be confused with the admit card. The admit card contains the information of examination centre, whereas the city slip is meant to help the candidate to arrange logistics.
The original September notice by CBSE stated that candidates cannot choose the exam city and the city will be allocated by CBSE randomly.
CTET Admit Card 2026: Issuance Date
Candidates are also waiting for their admit cards. According to the original notification of CTET September 2026, the admit cards will be available two days prior to the exam.
As the exam date has been changed, candidates should wait for the revised instructions by CBSE. The candidates should look for their admit cards on the official website of CTET.
CTET 2026 Paper I and Paper II
CTET consists of two papers -
- Paper I: Candidates who want to apply for teaching posts for classes I to V.
- Paper II: For classes VI to VIII.
Candidates who want to become eligible for both levels should appear for both papers. Both the papers consist of multiple choice questions. Each question carries one mark. There is no negative marking.
CTET Paper I
Paper I comprises of 150 questions carrying 150 marks -
- Child Development and Pedagogy - 30
- Mathematics - 30
- Environmental Studies - 30
- Language I - 30
- Language II - 30
CTET Paper II
Paper II also consists of 150 marks -
- Child Development and Pedagogy - 30
- Language I - 30
- Language II - 30
- Mathematics and Science or Social Studies/Social Science - 60
Candidates have to choose the relevant subject option for Paper II.
CTET 2026 Eligibility
Candidates must meet the minimum teacher-education qualifications prescribed by NCTE and as per the recruitment rules. CBSE states that a candidate taking the CTET does not imply that the candidate’s eligibility has been confirmed. The recruiting or appointing authority does the final verification of eligibility.
CTET September 2026 Application Status
According to the present status, applications were open from May 11 to June 10, 2026, and CBSE reopened applications from August 25 to September 1, 2026. Currently, the CTET website has posted a notification for application reopening and correction for September 2026.
What should candidates do now?
Candidates should not wait for the city slip to prepare. There are three important things that candidates should do right now:
- Candidates should keep checking for updates on the official website ctet.nic.in.
- Candidates should download the city intimation slip as and when it is made available by CBSE.
- Candidates should download the admit card as and when it is released and confirm the time, date, paper and shift.
- Candidates should keep their application number, login ID and confirmation page of their application safe.
Final Thoughts
The September 2026 examination is scheduled to fall on October 9 as per several reports. However, as CBSE has an indexed September information bulletin that says the date is September 6, the revised official notification should be treated as the final and only authoritative version.
Candidates should not rely on social-media claims that there is a date for the release of the admit card and city intimation slip, as CBSE has not released any official dates for the same. By far, ctet.nic.in should be the best official reference for the examination. CBSE provides all notices, application forms and examination related announcements on this website.
