CBSE Extends Last Date for Class 12 Scanned Answer Book: All Students Must Act by 24 May 2026
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has, through an official circular, notified that the deadline for obtaining the scanned copies of Class 12 Board Examination 2026 answer books has been extended to May 24, 2026. The previous deadline was May 23, 2026. Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj, Controller of Examinations, CBSE, has signed this circular with reference number CBSE/COORD/PRDF/CLASS XII/2026/ and it has been sent to all regional offices of CBSE.
If you sat for the Class 12 Board Examinations 2026 and intended to request a scanned copy of your answer book, you must consider this extension your last opportunity.
Why CBSE Extended the Deadline
The cause for the deadline extension is explained in an official report. There’s been a huge spike in traffic on the CBSE site, which is making the portal extremely slow and difficult for students to access. CBSE also suffered multiple unauthorised access attempts, making the site vulnerable and prone to technical disruptions.
The Board recognised that students are in no way responsible for these disruptions and consequently decided to extend the deadline by an extra day. Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, in the report, said that the extension was to make sure that a student is not denied the opportunity to take action and exercise their rights because of a technical disruption on the official site. The Board intends to provide every eligible student with an equal and fair opportunity to access evaluated answer books and to take further action accordingly.
This type of extension is highly unusual. The Board provided an explanation for both access attempts and overloading in traffic which shows how serious the portal disruptions were in the days leading up to 23 May 2026.
What Is the Scanned Answerbook Facility and Why Does It Matter?
The scanned photocopy facility under Class 12 allows students to access their answer book evaluated by the examiner. Under CBSE's transparency policy, students can see the answers they provided and check whether the examiner has marked all the questions, whether the total has been added incorrectly, etc.
After the student receives the scanned copy, they have to work quickly. The CBSE has issued a circular according to which the student has been given 2 days (from the date of the scanned copy) to apply for the next stage, which is called the Verification of Issues Observed and Re-evaluation. This 2-day limit has to be strictly followed by CBSE. They have also said that all previously issued terms and conditions must be accepted.
This process has also been emphasised by the CBSE, which stated that students who do not download the scanned copies before the 24th of May will not be able to apply for re-evaluation. The process is also strictly time-limited.
Key Dates Students Must Know Right Now
The adjusted dates require students to memorise the following:
Before, the last date to obtain a scanned answer book was 23 May 2026.
The last date to obtain a scanned answer book has been extended to 24 May 2026.
The re-evaluation application must be submitted within 2 days of receiving a copy.
All other terms and conditions will stay the same as the previous CBSE notifications.
The students who uploaded their answer books before 24 May will not be affected by the deadline extension. Students who could not access the site earlier will need to upload their answer books before 24 May, as it is now the last date.
Steps for Students Before May 24th, 2026
Time is limited, and the procedure is straightforward. Go to the CBSE website: www.cbse.gov.in. Log in using your roll number and the required information. Find the scanned answer book section under the Class 12 Board Examinations 2026 page. Download your answer book because once that window closes, you will not be able to access it.
Review your downloaded answer book. Make sure you check if all your answers have been graded, if any answers have been left ungraded, if the marks have been correctly added for all the questions, and if the total score on the cover page matches your score. If there is any difference, you will have to submit a request for Verification of Issues Observed or Re-evaluation within two days of viewing the answer book. Do not wait until the evening of the 24th of May, as the portal will be busy. Attempting to access the portal on the morning of the 24th of May offers the best chance of a successful download.
