CBSE New Deadline for Class 12 Answer Book Scanned Copies; Final Date 25 May 2026
Students who recently appeared in the 2026 Class 12 Board Examinations conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have been given limited but important relief. For the first time, the CBSE has granted a 1-day extension to the last date for requesting scanned copies of evaluated answer books. The deadline is now 25 May 2026 (Midnight).
In an official notification issued on 24 May 2026, reference number CBSE/Coord/PRDF/Class-XII/2025-26, CBSE Controller of Examinations, Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj, has mentioned that the deadline has been extended to provide an opportunity to students who could not submit their requests by the last extended deadline, and this is a follow-up to the previous notification issued on 22 May 2026.
According to the original notification, the deadline was 24 May 2026. With the extended date, students can visit the CBSE portal and request scanned copies of their evaluated answer books before it closes on 25 May 2026 (Midnight). The circular clearly states that the other terms and conditions governing the facility will remain unchanged.
Reasons This Extension is Important for Class 12 Students
Every year, dozens of Class 12 students ask for scanned copies of their test booklets after the results are out. Once the results are announced, students are given the opportunity to examine the answer sheets for their own papers to see which papers were evaluated, who the evaluators were, and whether the awarded marks are justified. This is also the prerequisite step to applying for re-evaluation of answer booklets or for verification of marks.
Requests for scanned copies of answer sheets are submitted online by students via the official CBSE website at www.cbse.gov.in. Each student must create their own account on the website and submit the application as per the time schedule. There is typically a nominal fee for submitting the request, and once the scheduled acceptance period has elapsed, no further requests are accepted on the portal.
For students wishing to appeal their scores or for re-evaluation, this step is mandatory. The board has made it clear in the circular that the re-evaluation request will not be processed until the students have first seen the scanned answer sheets. The start date for accepting requests for re-evaluation will be notified later, and this has been confirmed by Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj. Until that time, students should not wait for the notification to be issued to submit their requests for scanned copies.
Re-Evaluation Window Directly Connected to Scan Copy Access
The timeline for re-evaluations is one of the key updates in the CBSE circular. This circular states that the board aims to ensure that all students have the opportunity to view their answer books before the re-evaluation window begins.
In the circular, Dr. Sanyam Bhardwaj informed that the re-evaluation portal will be open for a minimum of two days post the release of the final scanned and evaluated answer book to the applicants. Thus, the board will not close the re-evaluation window without notice. Even applicants who request scanned copies of the answer books late and are given the answer book copies will still be given at least two days to formally request re-evaluation.
The board is also ensuring that all students are given the same opportunity and that no one is disadvantaged by a late request. This is especially important for students who are unsure whether to request a re-evaluation, because they now have the guarantee of at least 2 days to review their answer sheets and decide. This way, students can avoid the stress of a difficult decision and request a re-evaluation without any constraints.
