The second phase, or the Second Board Exam, of the Class 10 Session 2 of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) concluded on May 21, 2026, after being held from May 15 to May 21, at all the examination centers in India. As part of the new two-exam system, adopted by CBSE for the 2025-26 academic year in conjunction with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, this phase was attended by 6,68,854 students.

The result of the CBSE Class 10 Second Board Exam 2026 is likely to be declared in the first or second week of June 2026. Though the board has not declared a date, the assessment process after the Phase 2 exams is usually completed by the board in 10 to 12 days from the date of the last exam, placing the result in the first week of June. Not only is the result date of this exam unique and historic, but so is the process itself, as this is the first instance of the CBSE conducting two phases of the Class 10 Board exams. This makes the date in June a historic date for school education in India.

What is CBSE Class 10 Phase 2 and Who Appeared in it

The CBSE Class 10 Phase 2 Exam 2026, or Second Board Exam/Improvement Exam, started with the introduction of a Two-Phase Board Examination System for Class 10 Board Exams on June 25, 2025. With the introduction of this system, students no longer had to repeat a full academic year because of poor performance, since students now had a proper second chance. Phase 1 occurred from February 17 to March 11, 2026. The CBSE Class 10 Phase 1 results were announced on April 15, 2026. Students could thereafter register for Phase 2, if they wanted to improve their scores in a maximum of three subjects, which was scheduled to be held from May 15 to May 21, 2026.

Of the 6,68,854 candidates who registered for Phase 2, 5,25,655 opted for improvement. There were 85,285 compartment candidates, and 57,914 candidates were both improvement and compartment candidates. This was the last chance for students in Phase 1 to clear the exam for the subjects they had failed. Improvement in Phase 2 was not considered cancellation of students' Phase 1 results. Once the results were declared, CBSE was going to consider the best result of each subject from Phase 1 and Phase 2. Students were not required to do anything to select or apply for this. The Board was going to conduct the comparison, and the subjects were going to be recorded with the best score.

How to Check the CBSE Class 10 Phase 2 Result and What to Do After

The CBSE has a history of notice periods for results being very short. Here is how to check your results and avoid panic. After the results are announced, they will be available on the official CBSE website, via SMS, on DigiLocker, and on the UMANG app. The main portals for results are cbse.gov.in and cbseresults.nic.in. These two websites get the most traffic when the results are announced. Make sure you have DigiLocker and UMANG as alternatives.

Students can check their results by going to the official CBSE Class 10 result page, clicking on the link for Secondary School Examination Results 2026 and logging in using their roll number, school number, admit card ID and date of birth. After the marksheet is displayed, make sure to check the scores for each subject before downloading. Remember that the results published online are of a provisional nature. The mark sheets printed by CBSE will be sent to your school, and that will be the document that will be used for admissions and every other academic activity.
