Why did CBSE conduct a second board examination for Class 10?

According to CBSE, 6,64,027 students registered for the Second Board Examination, while 6,63,777 students actually appeared.
Out of these candidates, 5,13,955 students appeared specifically to improve their marks, and 3,08,095 students successfully improved their performance, representing 59.95 percent of improvement candidates. CBSE has confirmed that after combining the Main Board Examination and the Second Board Examination, the overall Class 10 pass percentage has reached 96.78 percent.
For students who appeared in the compartment category, 1,49,822 candidates appeared, while 78,503 students passed, resulting in a 52.40 percent pass percentage, which is higher than last year's 48.68 percent.

Students can access their results through the DigiLocker Results Portal. Schools will receive school-wise results through their registered email addresses and can also download students' digital academic documents from the CBSE repository.

Printed marksheets for regular students will be distributed through their respective schools, while private candidates will receive printed documents at their registered addresses or designated examination centres in Delhi, depending on their regional office.
