News Delhi: With CAT 2026 registration ending tomorrow at 5 PM on 15 September, candidates have very limited time to fill in their application forms and book their test city preferences, pay registration fees and avoid taking the gamble of waiting until the last minute to do all this. It is prudent of IIM Indore, the Institute in charge of CAT 2026, to encourage candidates not to wait until the last minute.

The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2026 will take place on 29 November 2026. This will be done in three sessions and will be offered in approximately 170 centers across the country. Candidates have to go to the CAT official website (iimcat.ac.in) to register and pay.

How to Apply for CAT 2026

Candidates will have to follow the order below to fill the application form:

• Register at iimcat.ac.in
• Click on ‘New Candidate Registration’
• Register using your valid email ID and mobile number
• Enter the OTP and create your login ID
• Enter your personal and academic details, work experience if applicable, preferred IIM programmes and other necessary details, upload the required documents and photographs and select your test city preferences.
• Preview the application form and pay the fees.
• Click on ‘submit’
• Save the confirmation page on your computer/desktop.

CAT 2026 Exam Centre: How to Choose the Five Cities

Thinking carefully about your preferences in this section is important. CAT 2026 applicants have to choose five cities according to their preference in order of importance. The CAT authorities will try to place you in a test centre of your choice, provided it is available. If no choice is available, you may be placed in a center adjacent to your chosen preference. The best way to approach this is by:

• Choosing your current city or the city that is easiest to reach as your first preference.
• In case you have to fill gaps, you may choose other close-by cities.
• Do not choose 5 cities that are far away by thinking it meets your preference the best.

Just because you choose a city, it does not mean you choose the test centre in that city. The CAT authorities will decide the test centre. Once a test centre is assigned, candidates are not allowed to request a change.

Registration Fee for CAT 2026

The registration fee consists of:

• ₹2,700 for General and NC-OBC applicants
• ₹1,350 for SC, ST and PwD applicants

The fee is to be paid online, and applicants must avoid a last-minute rush for payment.

The following should be checked twice before you submit your form:

Do not assume that filling the form is the same as filling the application. The application must be successfully submitted and the authorities must confirm your application.

What can be edited after CAT 2026 Registration?

There should not be an expectation for a window to edit the information after the registration deadline. According to the information available some of the fields like photograph and signature and test city preference will be editable; however, there will be many other fields that will be uneditable. The most straightforward approach will be to edit the form before submission.

What happens next after CAT 2026 Registration?

After the registration deadline passes, there will be something posted on the official CAT website and all candidates will have to wait for that. The exam date will be November 29, and the admit cards will be posted on November 4. CAT 2026 will be conducted in 3 sessions.
