A college-level course in physical education is a basis of the understanding of the physical as well as mental well-being and fitness of a person. The B.P.Edcourse offers a good career choice because the global sports industry is growing at a rapid pace at a worth of USD 620 Billion. The Indian Sports Industry was estimated to grow by 18% in 2022 generating huge employment opportunities for the B.P.Ed graduates.
There are projects taken up by the Indian Government to promote the sports industry further such as Khelo India Scheme, Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Sports Welfare Fund and National Sports Development Fund. The criteria to apply for a course in Sports Education to secure a seat in the 270 colleges in India providing the bachelor’s in physical education course is- the student has to have qualified their 12th (Intermediate) Grade with a minimum of 50% marks. The course duration is 3-4 years and can be pursued by those who have completed their graduation in any relevant field.
Some colleges admit students to the course of physical education through simple merit-based selection while some may handpick students through entrance exams that are conducted. Some of the top public colleges in India providing excellence in the course of Physical Education are Lakshmibai National College Of Physical Education(Thiruvananthapuram), Indira Gandhi Institute Of Physical Education And Sports Sciences(New Delhi), Alagappa University(Karaikudi), Banaras Hindu University(Varanasi), Gujarat Arts & Science College(Ahmedabad). The fee structure for these colleges range from Rs.7000-Rs.16000 per year.
Private institutions like Amity Amity School Of Physical Education And Sports Sciences(Noida), BPCA’s College Of Physical Education(Mumbai), Chandrashekhar Agashe College Of Physical Education(Pune), VNS College Of Physical Education And Management Studies(Bhopal) and Lovely Professional University(Phagwara). The fee structure for these colleges range from Rs.10,000-Rs.86,000 per year.

The entrance exams conducted at university-level for entrance to B.P.Ed program are colleges mainly consist of four sections- Basic Science, English Language, General Awareness and Reasoning Section. Students can pursue a B.P.Ed through distance education mode in case they are unable to opt for regular learning for some reason. Colleges offering this distance education mode for the B.P.Ed course are Alagappa and Annamalai Universities located in Tamil Nadu(fee ranges from Rs.16,000-Rs.18,000 per year)
LNIPE-BPEd
Course Offered : 8 Semester (4 Year) Bachelor of Physical Education (Integrated) programme.
Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (LNIPE), Gwalior was established by the Ministry of Education & Culture, Government of India in 1957. The Institute was given the status of National importance. In 1995 it was conferred the status of Deemed University in 1995.
The North East Regional Centre (NERC) of LNIPE is located in Guwahati.
The Institute runs 8-Semester (4-Year) Bachelor of Physical Education (Integrated) programme. It is mandatory for all the students pursuing full-time B.P.Ed., M.P.Ed., & Diploma Courses to reside in the hostels and take their meals in the mess.
LNIPE-Sports

This is an Open & Distance Learning course only for elite sportspersons, offered only at Gwalior as study centre.
Classes will be conducted online. It includes recorded auto-graded and peer-reviewed assignments, video lectures, and community discussion forums.
Students will receive a shareable electronic course material.
Continuous assessment – Theory & Practical (Field Work/Live Project/Case Studies).
Final Examination – Final Examination will be conducted at the end of each semester online.
Admission procedure : Admission will be provided to the candidates who have represented India in competitions mentioned in “Eligibility” section. The candidate must submit Sports Achievement / Participation Certificate of the same.
DU-BSc-Sports
This entrance exam is discontinued from the year 2022. The admissions will now be through the merit obtained in Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) conducted by NTA. Please check CUET-UG for details
