BITS Pilani-IIT Madras MoU: What the Partnership Covers

Under the five-year agreement, BITS Pilani and IIT Madras will explore several forms of academic cooperation, including:

  • Joint research projects and research proposals

  • Student exchange programmes

  • Faculty exchange and academic engagement

  • Sharing of scholarly information, academic materials and publications

  • Joint seminars, workshops and other academic meetings

  • Collaboration in areas of mutual academic and research interest

The partnership is expected to provide opportunities for students and faculty members of both institutions to engage with each other's academic and research ecosystems.

Student Exchange Programme

A key component of the MoU is the proposed student exchange programme. Students from BITS Pilani and IIT Madras will be able to undertake coursework, research activities and project work at the partner institution, subject to the applicable academic requirements and approval from faculty members or project supervisors.

Students participating in the programme will be designated as special exchange students. They may be allowed to enrol in courses for credit or audit, depending on the approval of the concerned faculty and fulfilment of prerequisites.

The agreement also provides for tuition-fee waivers at the host institution. Credits and grades earned during the exchange will be recognised by the student's home institution based on the academic report provided by the host institution.

Faculty and Research Collaboration

The partnership will also create opportunities for faculty members from both institutions to collaborate on research and academic activities. The two institutes can jointly develop research proposals and organise seminars, workshops and other academic meetings.

IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti said the institute would work with BITS Pilani in areas including critical and emerging technologies and wellness initiatives, while also learning from the practices of both institutions. BITS Pilani Group Vice Chancellor V. Ramgopal Rao highlighted student mobility, joint research and faculty engagement as areas of collaboration.

MoU Signed by IIT Madras and BITS Pilani Officials

The MoU was signed at the IIT Madras campus by Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Group Vice Chancellor, BITS Pilani, and Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director, IIT Madras.

The collaboration brings together two major Indian higher-education institutions with the aim of expanding academic mobility, research interaction and knowledge exchange over the five-year agreement period.
