BHU to Host Workshop on Economic Modeling in Health Research 

Varanasi: The HTAIn Resource Center at IMS-BHU will organize a two-day economic modeling workshop on September 28-29 , 2026, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Prof. D.P. Burma Seminar Hall. The workshop will help understand how economic analysis can support better healthcare decisions. 

The workshop, themed “From Model Development to Evidence-Based Decision-Making", will be a hands-on learning programme. It is open to students, faculty members, healthcare professionals, and researchers, as well as participants from outside the university also.

The workshop is being organised under the guidance of HTAIn (Health Technology Assessment in India), an attached office of the Department of Health Research, which is part of the Minister of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) Government of India. 

Topics to be Covered

The sessions will introduce participants to important areas of economic evaluation and economic modeling, including: 

  • Priniciples of Economic Evaluation

  • Types of Economic Models

  • Markov Models & Decision Trees

  • Cost-Effectiveness Analysis

  • Sensitivity Analysis

  • Model Validation

Participants will also get practical exposure through examples, software demonstrations and discussions. A certificate of participation will be provided at the end of the workshop. 

Why It Matters

Healthcare decisions often involve choosing between different treatments , medicines or medical technologies while considering their cost and benefits , so economic valuation helps compare these factors and can support better decisions about the use of healthcare resources.

The workshop will give participants an opportunity to understand these concepts through practical learning and real-world examples.
