New Delhi: The city of Banaras was showcased with its past and present way of life, enacted through a musical dance and drama with vibrancy of its rich social, cultural and heritage. Banaras- GALIYON SE GHATON TAK– a programme showcasing pulsating heart of Banaras was organized here last Sunday by the Society of Performing Art for Cultural Exchange (SPACE). This was done by organizing a unique event-a musical spectacular show- passing through a unique narrow winding lane. Amitabh Kant, G-20 Sherpa and several celebrities from the world of art and culture attended the programme. Ms. Neeta Bhargava, President, Mrs. Karuna Jain, Immediate past president, Mrs. Jiwarijika, Madhu Jaju, and several past presidents of the club were also present.
The programme was a musical theatre production by renowned artists from Kolkata and was directed by Shri Srijan Chatterjee and enacted by Nivedita Bhattachajee. The programme was an enriched amalgamation of Thumri, Dadra, Chaiti and Nirgun. The programme showcasing the pulsating heart of a city was interspersed with enticing tales.
Mrs. Karuna Jain immediate past President of the Club informed that the name Varanasi brings to mind washed ghats with their colorful umbrellas, flanking the undulating river Ganges on both sides. But it seems that the narrow winding lanes and by lanes that crisscross Banaras, connect this majestic river to life and death – a cauldron of pulsating, colorful, rhythmic, melodious rich life that brings you alive, and the raging fires of life’s glorious end and a firm believe that a holy dip and attaining one’s end in Kashi will help attain Moksha.
