Stanford University to Host “Healing Spells” Talk on Language, Stories, and Wholeness; Register now

Stanford University will host Healing Spells: An Evening Exploring Language’s Power to Create Wholeness, a public lecture featuring writer and mythographer Martin Shaw and award-winning poet Jane Hirshfield. The event will explore the role of stories and poetry in healing and human wellbeing. Register now.

California - Stanford University is set to host a special lecture and conversation titled Healing Spells: An Evening Exploring Language’s Power to Create Wholeness on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The event will take place from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm (PT) at McMurtry Building, Oshman Hall, located at 355 Roth Way, Stanford, California.

The programme will feature Martin Shaw, a writer and mythographer currently in residence at the University of Cambridge’s Faculty of Divinity, and Jane Hirshfield, an award-winning poet, essayist, and translator. Together, they will explore how myths, stories, and poetry shape human understanding of wholeness, authenticity, and healing in challenging times.

The event is sponsored by the Stanford SStorytelling Project and is co-sponsored by Medicine and the Muse. It is open to everyone, including students, faculty,  staff, affiliates and members of the public.
