Guwahati: The Assam government has announced a series of measures focused on expanding access to education and supporting students financially, as part of its broader welfare initiatives. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that the government is working towards covering education expenses, aiming to reduce the financial burden on families and improve enrolment across the state.
A key highlight of the announcement is the proposal to provide a monthly stipend of ₹2,500 to graduates, which is expected to support students transitioning from education to employment. The move is aimed at offering financial stability while young individuals explore job opportunities or pursue further studies. The government has also emphasised the development of technical education infrastructure, including expansion of Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and polytechnic institutions. These initiatives are intended to strengthen skill-based education and make students more employable in emerging sectors.
Officials noted that these steps are part of a larger strategy to bridge the gap between education and employment, ensuring that students are not only educated but also job-ready. Experts believe that such measures could significantly improve access to higher education and vocational training, especially for students from economically weaker backgrounds.
