Ahmedabad- Ahmedabad University has announced an upcoming lecture under its Arts and Sciences Lecture Series titled “Citizen vs. Labharthi?: How Technology Enabled Welfarism is Shaping Citizen-State Relations”. The lecture will be held on January 28, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM (IST) at Room 004, School of Arts and Sciences, Central Campus, Ahmedabad University.
The session will be delivered by Yamini Aiyar, Senior Visiting Fellow at the Saxena Center for Contemporary South Asia and the Watson Institute, Brown university. She is a well known public policy researcher and commentator on governance, social policy and state capacity in India .
The lecture will explore how digital technologies and welfare delivery systems are transforming the relationship between citizens and the state with a focus on the evolving role of beneficiaries (labhartis), accountability mechanisms and governance frameworks.
The event is expected to attract students, faculty members, researchers and policy enthusiasts interested in public policy, governance, technology and development studies. The lecture aims to promote informed dialogue on the impact of technology-driven welfare models on democratic citizenship and state-society , relations.
