A massive 9.8 lakh candidates have applied for 935 Assistant Education Development Officer (AEDO) posts in Bihar. The BPSC exam is scheduled for January 2026. Know details on AEDO roles, recruitment process, and political reactions.

Patna : Bihar has recorded an extraordinary surge in applications for the newly introduced Assistant Education Development Officer (AEDO) posts, with 9.8 lakh candidates applying for just 935 vacancies—a record-breaking ratio for any recruitment handled by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC).

The overwhelming response underscores the intense competition and the high demand for stable government jobs among young aspirants in the state.

First-Ever Recruitment for AEDO Posts

The AEDO vacancies were announced as part of the Bihar government’s commitment to create 1 crore (10 million) jobs over the next five years. This is the first time the state has opened recruitment for this role.

BPSC Examination Controller Rajesh Kumar Singh confirmed that “9,80,000 candidates have applied for 935 positions,” noting that preparations are underway for the exam to be conducted in January 2026. Detailed instructions and the complete exam schedule will be released on the BPSC website in December.

Following the written examination, shortlisted candidates will go through:

  • Document verification
  • Medical examination
  • Final appointment

What Does an AEDO Do?

The Assistant Education Development Officer will play a central role in overseeing the implementation of education schemes and monitoring school operations at the Panchayat and Block levels.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising education-related activities across 9–10 Panchayats
  • Ensuring compliance with government education policies
  • Monitoring school functioning and documentation
  • Supporting planning and development at the local level

The post effectively replaces the earlier Block Education Officer (BEO) system, redistributing responsibilities through the newly designed AEDO framework.

Political Reactions: Unemployment Debate Intensifies

The massive number of applicants has triggered a sharp political back-and-forth.

Opposition Criticism

The opposition, particularly the RJD, has accused the NDA government of failing to address the rising unemployment crisis.

RJD spokesperson Ejaz Ahmed argued that the government has “shattered the hopes of the youth,” adding that promised job opportunities have not materialised. He claimed that public expectations grew when Tejashwi Yadav highlighted employment issues, but policies since then have disappointed young job seekers.

NDA Government's Response

Countering the criticism, the BJP defended the state’s employment plan. Spokesperson Neeraj Kumar reiterated that the government is actively working to create 10 million jobs within the next five years. He added that several departments have already begun the process of filling vacancies.

A Recruitment Drive at the Heart of Bihar’s Employment Politics

With the AEDO examination set for January 2026, this recruitment has become a prominent symbol of Bihar’s ongoing challenges and commitments in providing meaningful employment. The unprecedented number of applicants reflects both the trust in government jobs and the urgency of the state’s unemployment concerns.
