AP Health Minister Directs Medical Colleges to set up Anti ragging Measures

Medical Education Director and Dr. Y.S.R. University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor have been instructed to supervise the anti-ragging committees and review the situation regularly.

 

Amaravati : Vidadala Rajini, minister for health, family welfare, and medical education of Andhra Pradesh has directed all medical colleges in the state to set up anti-ragging helplines which should be functioning in full capacity.

This comes after the suicide of a medical student in Warangal, Telangana because of alleged ragging and harassment by seniors. The minister said that colleges must be vigilant and must set up surveillance cameras at important places and that students must be able to access complaint boxes to report harassment.

In a review meeting which was attended by all the principals of government and private medical colleges, she further instructed that the Director of Medical Education (DME) and health university vice-chancellor will directly supervise the anti-ragging committees.

Emphasising safety and security, the minister recommended all female students to download and use the Disha app and also directed colleges to provide students with counselling, yoga, and meditation sessions.
