AIU Sports Calendar 2026-27: First University Games on 29th August 2026, With KIIT Hosting Athletics Championships
The 2026-27 season of AIU Sports will begin on August 29, 2026, on National Sports Day and start India's inter-university athletics on the day. The games will be held at the KIIT Deemed to be University in Bhubaneswar, and the events will include the men’s and women’s All India Inter-University Athletics Championships.
University athletes are excited since AIU’s sports programs function within the national and zonal circuits of the country across Universities. The AIU Sports Division mentions that it is currently managing a plethora of sporting events on an all-India and zonal basis for both men and women.
AIU Games 2026-27: What Students Need to Know
It is expected that the Games will play out on all university campuses until March 31, 2027. The Bhubaneswar station will be the first of many. From the details of the KIIT-KISS hosting allocation, it is clear that on August 29, the opening ceremony will coincide with the Athletics Championships, resulting in an energetic start for the 2026-27 Games.
KIIT and KISS will also host other games to be held under the auspices of the AIU, including the men’s and women’s Athletics championships and the East Zone men’s and women’s cricket and hockey. Sambalpur University will host the East Zone women’s hockey and football championships. More than 5,000 athletes, coaches, officials, managers, and sports administrators will be associated with the championships.
Participation Will Remain University-Based
For those wishing to participate, the process will still be university-based and not independent. Universities are tasked with registering and sending athletes/teams to the competitions conducted by AIU Sports.
The AIU Sports division has created a separate section for the registration of athletes/ universities, along with sports rules and SOPs and guidance for participation. Therefore, for participation, university sports departments, the Director of Physical Education or sports officers will be the respective contact points for students.
A Calendar That Matters Beyond Athletes
The AIU Sports Calendar includes more than just dates of matches. It determines when universities will send their teams, when selection and registration processes will take place, and which universities will host national or zonal tournaments.
Previous Sports Calendars of the AIU have also included operational information for competitions, adherence to SOPs for tournaments, and the required sports infrastructure for different sports.
One Important Accuracy Note
AIU's website now has a Sports Calendar 2026–27 section but, on August 19, 2026, they still requested proposed dates for AIU Inter-University Tournaments for the academic year 2026–27. Therefore, students and university staff should check the latest AIU notification to cross check event dates. As of now, schedules published on social media and unofficial calendar copies should not be relied upon.
The KIIT opening on August 29 and Athletics Championships have been independently published, but the full season schedule should be viewed as provisional until the official publication of the AIU sports calendar is released. The 2026–27 AIU sports calendar is now in the opening phase as of August 29, 2026. Staff of universities should ensure their players are registered through the AIU Sanctioned process.
