Uttar Pradesh: Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has taken a significant step to promote regional language education by introducing a new Ability Enhancement Course (AEC) in Odia Studies for the 2025-26 academic session. The programme is being offered under the Kabi Samrat Upendra Bhanj Odia Chair in the Faculty of Arts.
Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the course focuses on teaching Odia script, grammar, classical literature, and regional dialects, while also integrating contemporary applications like oratory, debate, media communication, and translation practices. Funded jointly by the Odisha government and relevant ministries, the initiative aims to deepen cultural literacy and expand students’ language expertise in a practical, learner-centric environment.
BHU officials say the new programme is expected to enhance multilingual competence and boost students’ employability, while also preserving and celebrating India’s linguistic diversity.
