UGC Invites HEI Applications for ODL, Online Programme Recognition 2026-27
New Delhi, : The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited fresh online applications from eligible Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) seeking recognition to offer programmes through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and/or Online mode for the academic year 2026-27 and academic sessions beginning January-February 2027 and onwards.
The application process is being conducted in accordance with Regulation 3(A) and Regulation 3(B)(b) of the UGC (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020, along with subsequent amendments.
UGC Application Window for HEIs
Eligible institutions can submit their applications through the UGC Distance Education Bureau (DEB) portal within the prescribed timeline.

HEIs have been advised to visit the official UGC DEB website for information regarding the prescribed application fee and any further announcements related to the application process.
Applications Available Throughout the Year for Certain HEIs
The UGC has clarified that the application submission window on the DEB portal remains open throughout the year for HEIs entitled to offer Online programmes and Category-I HEIs eligible to offer ODL programmes.
However, institutions should note that submitting an application does not automatically constitute approval or recognition to offer the programmes.
All applications will be scrutinised against the standards and requirements prescribed under the UGC (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020 and its amendments.
HEIs Advised to Follow UGC Guidelines
The latest UGC notification provides an opportunity for eligible institutions to seek recognition for offering programmes through ODL and Online modes for the upcoming academic sessions.
HEIs planning to apply should complete the online application within the specified deadline and ensure that the required affidavit and annexures are submitted as prescribed.
