SRM School of Law Appoints 35 Faculty Members, Takes Total Strength to 75
Chennai, September 1, 2026: SRM School of Law, SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST), has appointed 35 new faculty members, taking its total faculty strength to 75 as part of a major expansion aimed at strengthening teaching, research and international academic engagement.
The latest appointments bring together academics with qualifications and professional experience from leading institutions in India and abroad. The expansion is part of SRM School of Law’s broader effort to build a globally connected law school with stronger academic and research capabilities.
Faculty with International Academic Exposure
According to SRM School of Law, 51% of the newly appointed faculty members have either earned degrees from international universities or have significant international academic or professional experience.
The new faculty members have studied or worked at institutions including the University of California, Berkeley Law School; King’s College London; Queen’s University Belfast; University of Göttingen, Germany; University of Amsterdam; Geneva Graduate Institute; McGill University, Canada; and the National University of Singapore.
Among the new appointments, 13 faculty members have previously been associated with Jindal Global Law School, which the institute noted is ranked among the top 35 globally in the QS subject-wise rankings.
The appointments also include academics from leading Indian institutions such as the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru; NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad; National Law University, Delhi; West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS), Kolkata; and IIT Kharagpur.
Professional and Policy Experience
The expanded faculty base also brings experience from the legal, policy and international sectors.
Prof. Anuradha Saibaba has worked with the International Committee of the Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières and served as Director of the Sushma Swaraj Foreign Service Institute in Delhi. Prof. Annamma Samuel previously held the DPIIT Chair Professorship at National Law University, Gandhinagar.
Dr. Satanik Pal, a specialist in sociology, holds a PhD from the National University of Singapore.
Women Form 63% of Faculty
The faculty expansion has also increased women's representation at the School. Female faculty members now account for 63% of the total faculty strength, according to the institute.
The new faculty members come from different parts of India, adding to the diversity of academic backgrounds and professional perspectives at the School.
Focus on Building a Global Law School
Speaking about the expansion, Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan, Pro-Chancellor (Academics), SRMIST, said the institution is committed to developing a world-class law school and producing professionals capable of making significant contributions to the legal profession.
Prof. Y.S.R. Murthy, Pro Vice-Chancellor, School of Law, SRMIST, said the new appointments would play an important role in strengthening the School's global ambitions.
He added that the expanded faculty would help inspire students while creating opportunities for national and international collaborations.
Prof. Indranath Gupta, Dean, School of Law, SRMIST, said the School aims to develop the next generation of legal professionals who can contribute to the legal profession, public institutions and society.
Dr. Sawmiya Rajaram, Associate Professor, SRM School of Law, said the institution's scale, disciplinary diversity and academic ambitions could enable it to contribute significantly to the future of legal education.
The latest appointments are expected to strengthen the School's teaching and research ecosystem, while creating greater opportunities for international collaborations, interdisciplinary research, policy engagement and academic exchange.
With its faculty strength now at 75, SRM School of Law is positioning its expanded academic base as an important foundation for its long-term goal of developing a globally connected institution for legal education and research.
