New Delhi : The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), India, and the National Institute of Education (NIE), Singapore, explored opportunities for academic and professional collaboration in teacher education and professional development during a virtual meeting held on September 2.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in areas including teacher preparation, student exchange, international internships, collaborative research, holistic assessment, skill education and innovative teaching practices.
Prof. P.C. Agarwal, Joint Director, NCERT, shared insights into teacher preparation programmes and the possibilities of student exchange. From NIE Singapore, Dr. Choy Ban Heng, Assistant Dean, Partnerships, Office of Teacher Education & Undergraduate Programmes (TEUP), highlighted opportunities for student exchange and international internships.
The meeting also featured perspectives from Prof. Y. Sreekanth, Prof. Vijayan, Prof. Padma Yadav and Prof. Sharad Sinha on collaborative research and teacher education.
Dr. Girija Rawat highlighted PARAKH’s Holistic Progress Card and its relevance to comprehensive student assessment. Prof. Vinay Swarup Mehrotra proposed potential cooperation in vocational skills, establishment of a Centre of Excellence and student exchange programmes.
Prof. Sindhya from the International Relations Division coordinated the virtual meeting.
Participants also discussed continuous professional development, capacity building and innovative pedagogies as potential areas for future collaboration between the two institutions.
The interaction highlighted the scope for greater international academic engagement and knowledge exchange in teacher education, with both institutions exploring avenues to support professional development, skills education and contemporary approaches to teaching and assessment.
