IIT Gandhinagar, Global Chamber Ahmedabad GIFT City Partner to Take Research to Global Markets

Gandhinagar, August 28, 2026: The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) and Global Chamber Ahmedabad GIFT City have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen the connection between academic research, industry and international markets.

Signed on August 28, the partnership aims to accelerate the translation of IITGN research and innovations into market-ready solutions while strengthening the institute’s global innovation, technology validation and commercialisation ecosystem.

Under the collaboration, Global Chamber Ahmedabad GIFT City will use its international network of CEOs, investors and policymakers to help IITGN build global partnerships, expand market access and increase the international visibility of its research and technologies.

Focus on Global Market Access and Technology Commercialisation

The partnership will explore a range of initiatives designed to connect research with industry and international markets. These include:

  • Developing global partnerships and market-access opportunities for IITGN technologies.
  • Supporting the translation of research into market-ready solutions.
  • Exploring programmes for international technology companies seeking to enter the Indian market.
  • Developing technology validation, certification and adaptation frameworks for India.
  • Facilitating joint research, investment and cross-border technology scaling.
  • Strengthening IITGN's global innovation and technology ecosystem.
  • Creating a stronger India-entry pipeline for international technology companies.

The collaboration brings together IITGN’s expertise in research, deep-tech, technology validation and innovation with Global Chamber’s international business network.

IITGN to Support Deep-Tech and Technology Validation

Under the MoU, IIT Gandhinagar will contribute its capabilities in research and development, deep-tech, innovation support and technology validation.

Global Chamber Ahmedabad GIFT City, meanwhile, will facilitate industry adoption, global partnerships, international technology incubation, as well as engagements in urban innovation and emerging technologies.

Prof Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Gandhinagar, said the partnership would help create pathways for research and innovation to move beyond the campus and reach wider applications and markets.

Prof Vimal Mishra, Dean, Research and Development, IIT Gandhinagar, highlighted the potential of the collaboration to connect research and technology with industry and global partners, helping promising innovations move towards real-world applications.

Global Chamber to Facilitate International Connections

Mr Shanker Damodaran, Executive Director, Global Chamber Ahmedabad GIFT City, said the organisation’s global network could help businesses and technologies connect across markets.

He also highlighted the opportunities emerging from GIFT City and the potential for collaboration with IIT Gandhinagar to bring global technologies, investments and partnerships to Gujarat.

Technical Discussion on Sustainable Computing Infrastructure

The MoU signing was followed by a technical interaction on sustainable and energy-efficient computing infrastructure.

The discussion covered advanced cooling technologies, including closed-loop water cooling, and examined their potential to reduce energy and water consumption. Participants also discussed the integration of renewable energy solutions and the possible use of geothermal and other building-level sustainable cooling approaches.

The MoU was formally signed by Mr Shanker Damodaran, Executive Director, Global Chamber Ahmedabad GIFT City, and Prof Vimal Mishra, Dean, Research and Development, IIT Gandhinagar.

The partnership is expected to create new avenues for academia-industry engagement, global collaboration, technology validation and research commercialisation, helping IIT Gandhinagar connect its research capabilities with international markets and industry opportunities.
