IICT, Netflix Announce Scholarships for 100 Students Across Six Creative Technology Programmes
Mumbai, August 26, 2026: The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) and Netflix have announced scholarships for 100 students, offering financial support of up to 80% across six professional programmes focused on India's growing creative technology sector.
The scholarship initiative covers two one-year diploma programmes and four six-month certificate programmes, spanning areas including visual effects, animation, gaming, comics and media technology.
Six Programmes Covered Under Scholarship
The scholarship initiative will cover the following IICT programmes:
- Diploma in Interactive Comics & Sequential Arts
- Diploma in Visual Effects Mastery
- Certificate in Virtual Art Department Content Creation
- Certificate in Media Tech Workflow
- Certificate in Art of Character Animation
- Certificate in E-Sports & Gaming Management
The scholarships will be available to students and working professionals across India.
Focus on India's Creative Talent
The initiative follows the Netflix India Storytelling Initiative, launched after Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Netflix Co-CEO Ted Sarandos on August 5, 2026.
During the interaction, Modi highlighted India's long tradition of storytelling and its large pool of creative talent, emphasising the country's potential to become a global hub for content creation.
The initiative aims to strengthen India's creative talent pipeline by developing industry-relevant skills across the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) ecosystem.
Netflix Inputs in Course Curriculum
The curriculum for IICT's Visual Effects Mastery and Media Tech Workflow programmes has been developed with inputs from Netflix.
The programmes are designed around contemporary industry workflows and global standards, giving students exposure to the skills and professional practices increasingly required in the global creative technology industry.
Building an Industry-Ready Workforce
Chanchal Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and Chairman, IICT Board, said India's creative economy is at an important stage as technology continues to transform the way content and stories are created.
He highlighted the importance of partnerships between educational institutions and global industry players in bringing current industry knowledge into classrooms and preparing students for the evolving AVGC-XR sector.
Dr. Vishwas Deoskar, CEO, IICT, said the collaboration aims to ensure that students acquire skills that remain relevant to changing industry requirements.
He emphasised that the partnership combines structured education, industry inputs and financial support to strengthen the pipeline of creative professionals.
Focus on AVGC-XR Sector
Munjal Shroff, Chairman, FICCI AVGC-XR Forum, said the collaboration between FICCI, IICT and Netflix represents a move towards more industry-aligned talent development for India's AVGC-XR sector.
The initiative is expected to provide students with greater access to professional training while supporting the development of India's creative economy.

The Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) is a national centre of excellence for the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) sector.
The institute was established by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra, FICCI and CII.
IICT currently operates from the NFDC Complex, Pedder Road, Mumbai, while its permanent 10-acre campus is being developed at Film City, Goregaon.
