Gujarat CM Disburses ₹646 Crore to 4.72 Lakh Students Under Namo Laxmi, Namo Saraswati Schemes

GANDHINAGAR: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has transferred more than ₹646 crore in scholarships and educational assistance to 4,72,260 students across the state under the Namo Laxmi, Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana and other scholarship schemes. The financial assistance was distributed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) at an event held at Swarnim Sankul in Gandhinagar on August 12, 2026.The latest disbursement is aimed at supporting students pursuing school and higher education, with a significant portion of the funds going towards girls who have successfully completed their Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations.

₹646 Crore Transferred to Students

According to the details released by the state government, more than 4 lakh girls received over ₹513 crore under the Namo Laxmi scheme after clearing their Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations. The scheme is intended to encourage girls to continue their education through the secondary and higher secondary levels. Another ₹28 crore was provided to more than 57,000 students who passed their Class 12 Science stream examinations under the Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana schemeThe remaining ₹105 crore was distributed through various scholarship and higher-education support schemes. This included around ₹96 crore for 7,260 students under schemes such as the Mukhyamantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana, SHODH, Mukhyamantri Shri Scholarship Yojana and Mukhyamantri Kanya Kelavani Nidhi Yojana. A further ₹9 crore was provided as grants to 48 institutions.

What Is the Namo Laxmi Scheme?

The Namo Laxmi scheme is a Gujarat government initiative designed to provide financial support to eligible girl students from Classes 9 to 12. The scheme aims to reduce financial barriers that can lead students to discontinue their education. Under the scheme, an eligible girl can receive financial assistance of up to ₹50,000 over Classes 9 to 12, subject to the applicable eligibility and academic conditions. The latest disbursement is therefore significant for students because the assistance is linked to continuing education and successful completion of important school-level examinations.

Support for Science Students

The Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana focuses on encouraging students to pursue Science education at the higher secondary level. As part of the latest distribution, more than 57,000 students who cleared the Class 12 Science stream examination received ₹28 crore under the scheme. The state government has highlighted the programme as an effort to encourage greater participation in Science education, particularly among students who may face financial barriers.

Other Higher Education Scholarships Included

The latest financial assistance was not limited to school students. Funds were also released under several higher-education and scholarship programmes. Around ₹96 crore was transferred to 7,260 students under schemes including the Mukhyamantri Yuva Swavalamban Yojana, SHODH, Mukhyamantri Shri Scholarship Yojana and Mukhyamantri Kanya Kelavani Nidhi Yojana. These initiatives provide financial support to students pursuing higher education and research. The state government also provided ₹9 crore in grants to 48 educational institutions as part of the latest round of assistance.

Gujarat Government's Focus on Student Support

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said the government would continue focusing on education and encouraging students to pursue their studies. He also highlighted the role of teachers and society in improving educational outcomes. The government has additionally launched efforts to identify children who have discontinued their schooling and facilitate their re-enrolment, with the broader aim of improving educational participation and reducing dropouts. For students and parents, the latest disbursement highlights the range of financial-support schemes available through the Gujarat government.
