New Delhi:The University of Delhi has approved a major hostel expansion and reconstruction plan worth ₹5,889 crore, aimed at improving accommodation facilities for students. The proposal is expected to create hostel capacity for approximately 21,895 students, addressing the growing demand for affordable residential facilities across the university.
The plan includes the construction of new hostels at several locations, including Dhaka, Surajmal Vihar, Najafgarh and Dwarka. It also proposes the redevelopment of existing residential facilities such as Jubilee Hall and the Postgraduate Men’s Hostel.
The proposed expansion is expected to strengthen the university’s residential infrastructure and provide students with better access to essential facilities. The planned hostels may include dining halls, reading rooms, common areas and other student-friendly amenities.
Hostel accommodation remains an important concern for students, particularly those who move to Delhi from different parts of the country for higher education. Limited residential facilities often make it difficult for students to find affordable and convenient accommodation near their colleges.
Through this proposed investment, Delhi University aims to address the accommodation shortage and improve the overall campus experience. However, the implementation schedule and construction timelines are yet to be announced.
The initiative marks a significant step towards strengthening student infrastructure and making university life more accessible and comfortable for a larger number of learners.
